Nice ladies and a very cozy atsmosphere. I am sad about my low review, but I must be honest. The low review is because of their old (SUPER OLD) pastries.
I ordered a crossaint. The display had a 25% discount tag. I thought they were a day old. She dissapeared to go get a different one from a batch they have inside. The other lady said that "they keep that one on display because it looks nice." I did not catch the why just yet.
When the lady brought it out, she asked me if I wanted it microwaved... ??? I said no, but when I touched it, it was ice cold. She said they keep them refrigerated as they are weeks old. I would have appreciated being told before paying the $4.68 "discounted" price. Anyhow, she microwaved it and it became soggy. I was trying to be optimistic so asked if it could be toasted (as I was expecting a crossaint to be crispy). She did, but burned it. She still served it that way instead of offering another one or a reimbursement. I would have gone for a reimbursement. I guess they feel it is totally ok to sell refrigerated crossains and pastries.
Anyhow, I also ordered a veggie sandwhich. It was good, but it would have been even better it if was toasted slightly longer as the tomatoe and cucumber made it a little soggy.
This was my first experience here and very possibly the last one. I...
Read moreAmbience has a very organic jazzy vibe. A great place to relax and get your caffeine fix. I'm a matchaholic and know the difference between cheap and quality matcha.
Most coffee shops that offers matcha latte on their menu usually use cheap culinary grade matcha with sugar. But Steele House Coffee has created an original taste from a culinary grade matcha. The first sip tasted like soil. It wasn't very appetizing. After having several more sips, their matcha started to emit a nutty flavor of mocha. The original flavor grew on me since they didn't hide the bitterness from matcha with sugar as other cafe shops does. I only wished they embrace the grassy taste that comes with matcha. Over all experience was pleasing.
If you're a person looking for a matcha fix with an organic experience that tells a story through the drink, this place is for you.
This could have been a 4 stars but gave 3stars since no music was playing in the cafe as I sat there with a pale expression contemplating to ask the girl for her number 15ft away from me in this pandemic. A jazzy music playing in the background could have boosted my confidence. But I was too pathetic anyways. Other than that, Steele House Coffee is a great place.
Update: 4/23/21 Giving it a 4 star for a well rounded place with...
Read morethis is the only place i can find in town that does UNSWEETENED MATCHA. they do not use a sweetened pre-mix with other ingredients. they use straight matcha powder. then they manually sift it. also...they actively carry UNSWEETENED alternative milks. i have gone to and liked this place since they opened. the owners are hard-working, knowledgable, and delightful family people. i like the uncontrived vibe of the place... the local art, records playing, outdoor terrace, atmospheric lighting, wood slab tables etc...they are on door dash etc... i like their avocado toast and cream cheese with lox salmon. be patient...they get busy! they are a good small business so there might beca line and a wait. but they are swift with making the orders. interesting...just scrolling thru old reviews here...from years ago they took a hit on stars from people not liking that they didnt enforce masks...well alot of us found that refreshing and were so thankful...and how weird of those reviewers to nix a small business for nothing to do with food or service... oh well. i bet those reviewers dont have alot of friends. thank you steele house for your presence in our downtown area. cheers to many more years! you are...
