My friend and I picked this place because the cave room caught our eyes. We had never stayed in a themed room before and thought it looked like a fun place to stay at. We also liked the location because of how close it was to Joshua tree. However, the room reservation system is kinda confusing. Online there was no way to reserve the specific themed room we wanted, which was "The Cave Room". Online it just mentioned that we reserved the "a themed room", not a specific one, so we had to CALL the hotel directly to ensure were are getting the right room! When we got there, the gentleman at the front desk was fine. We got to our room and it looked cool and seemed liked a fun themed place. Room was clean, tv worked, and bed was comfy. However, we were there in winter and it was freezing in the room so we turned on the heater but it stopped working completely after about 45 mins of turning it on. We replugged it in hopes it might restart But we noticed that the wall socket just didn't have any electricity running through it anymore so we had to call the front office for help. They came and shut of the power in our room to restart the breaker and it turned back on. Then we tried to use the hot tub in the room and we couldn't get the bubbles started and there were no directions in the room on how to use it. So we went to the front desk for some help and the gentleman at the front desk explained that the water had to be a certain height in order for the sensor to activate the jets. Thats fine, but it would have saved us some time if there was a sign or some kind of directions in the room. We got into the tub for a few minutes, however, eventually the hot water stopped and only began sending out cold water. So unfortunately we gave up on using the tub. However the most disappointed part of the hotel was the horrible wifi. Online says they have wifi which was something I really needed as I had to work on some home work assignments. But the wifi didn't work at all. We called the front desk to double check we had the right pass code for the right wifi (there was like 7 different wifi you could use for some reason). The gentleman at the front desk explained that it sometimes works... so you need to try every wifi and find the one that works the best with your room, which none of them did. We explained that to him and he said our room just had poor connection but we were free to wander and try to get connection which was a bit odd. Any ways, overall it was an OKAY place to stay. I appreciate the hotel's location and its cleanliness, but thats about it. The place seemed like it could use some updating and better pricing. I understand it was a themed room so its expected for it to be pricier than a regular room but for the price we paid I believe it should have been of better...
Read moreIs the hotel I decided to book through a 3ird party Priceline so the day of 2/23/2021 I call to confirm and let the hotel clerk I will be coming in around 11pm that night and he stated it was ok and my reservation was still there. So when I get to the room it was about 11:15 and he claimed my reservation was canceled and proceeds to charge me for a room. Despite him telling me earlier lying to me that I still had a reservation I decided to still rent the room which he claimed to only have a two bed. So after I get the room he charges me $100 deposit. I agreed to it because he said it will be refunded after I check out. So I get to the room and I turn on the light and check the appliances and notice the television doesn’t work so I call the front desk and he instructs me to change the input. It didn’t work so he says to me after I couldn’t get the television to work that there is no problem in the other rooms with the television and I said ok change my room to a room with all the appliances that work he says no. So I ask for a refund so I can go to a hotel room with working appliances. He refused to refund me. Then I went to the front and told him that it was fraud to sale me a room without working appliances and that I would call corporate and the police to file a complaint for fraud. Then he gets on the phone with the repair company to try and see if someone can fix the problem. Mean I’m outside in the cold while he is now in the room I paid for and wants me not to come in because of Covid for almost 30 minutes or so then he decided to change my room when it was almost after 1 hour of standing in the cold and a long drive and charges me another $100 deposit on my card when I asked why he says because it is mandatory I told him I will be filing a complaint with the company again. First off this man was so rude to me and lied to me about my reservation being there when I called only to have me come all the way there for it to be canceled by them I was told when I called Priceline. And charged me a different rate for 3 nights at $219 plus charged me $100 deposit twice on my bank card. And then the whole harasses me about smoking because he saw me smoking in my car. I travel for work and book online through Priceline to avoid problems with slum hotel owners at that the room was dated and dirty. How I was treated I am a nurse and it was such an inconvenience and stressful that I had to go through this just to get my...
Read moreI would've loved to give this hotel five stars. For the price, the rooms were fine, and the pool/hot tub was great after a few days in the national park. Unfortunately my experience with the staff was challenging (and frankly downright baffling) and it left a sour taste in my mouth after an amazing birthday weekend in Joshua Tree.
The morning we were due to check out, my father (who was in a hotel down the road a ways) was feeling ill. He was driving in our direction as he had a flight to catch out of San Diego. He needed to stop and use our restroom on his way before a long drive. This was close to checkout time.
We had most of our stuff out of the room and in the car, and were relaxing by the pool while we waited to check out.
I called and asked for a late checkout, and they refused. This was puzzling (as the entire hotel seemed empty, as was the parking lot), but not a big deal... I can't pretend to know how they operate and shouldn't make assumptions. I wouldn't leave a bad review just for that.
Hotel staff were hovering around the room 10 minutes before checkout, just waiting to go in. They were clearly eager to get in there, and unhappy that we were still on the premises, pacing back and forth and making lots of eye contact with me (as if to say "why are you still here? It's time to check out!").
Due to my father feeling ill, he was in the room a few minutes past checkout (I believe this was 11am). He told me that he had just tested positive for COVID. I went in and opened the windows to air out the room, and then let the staff know that a covid-positive person had been in the room so that they could mask up / let it air out. The staff (I believe she was one of the owners) was furious, telling me "he did not have permission to use the rest room!", etc etc. I asked her "guests need permission?" and she said yes. She was very upset. She made it clear that our child couldn't come in and use a towel to dry off from the pool and that we needed to leave ASAP.
My parents live on the other side of the country and it was a shame to say goodbye like this, being kicked out of a giant empty parking lot of a hotel I had paid to stay in.
It was a challenging situation for us to begin with, considering my sick father and travel logistics, and was made even more challenging due to rigid checkout policies and a lack of empathy from the staff. I wouldn't consider staying here again after...
