So I stumbled across this awesome place by accident really looking for a nice place for lunch. I decided to walk in and see what it was like. My immediate impression was 'wow, the inside doesn't match the outside at all'. It was clean, and bright, felt inviting.
The Chicken Katsu stood out to me so I ordered that along with a 2 piece unagi(eel).
Everything was being freshly prepared behind the counter by the Master Mikey. His presentation of the meal he so carefully prepared was clean and delicious, definitely felt like I was eating something much more expensive. My unagi arrived picture perfect on a wooden board, my Katsu plate was arranged with care, the handmade Chicken It was made into a perfectly hand breaded circle, sliced, sauced and remained nice and crunchy.
After digging in, I could taste the difference. It almost reminded me of something homemade, from the flavor of the unagi, the rice, the well dressed side salad and even the breaded Katsu chicken, everything was well seasoned and had it's own unique spice and taste, it made me feel like I was tasting a family recipe.
Before leaving I got to shake Mikey's hand and thank him for an extraordinary lunch.
Let me just say, you get what you pay for. High quality ingredients, super fresh, everything is handcrafted and they are super friendly. I went for lunch but I am definitely coming back with my family for a nice dinner.
Whether your a local or coming up on your way to Joshua Tree NP. Stop by, you won't be disappointed.
Thank you Yucca Sushi! 5/5 Stars, id put...
Read moreposting this same review to help this business out that I posted on the other review site since they were so nice to me: I haven't posted a review in a bit but decided to after the awesome service I received here. First of all, the food was pretty amazing - was not expecting this level of delicious sushi in the desert. My wife and I were taking the baby for a drive when we saw this place - doesn't look the fanciest from the outside but wife wanted sushi - so we had to get sushi.
Wow, the sushi was really good - rolls were really big and the sushi was very fresh - I saw that they just opened so I'm hoping it will continue to be that way as I plan to stop by here anytime I am in the area. I was really expecting less than fresh sushi but it was so delicious - in fact, everything here was pretty spot on. I also had the fried rice which was HUGE and delicious - not overly salty like other places but has a very clean savory taste.
But more than anything, the service was top notch. The server was super friendly and the chef was very nice. I think I came at a slower time so they were able to talk to us more - but really, I was very happy with the hospitality. I definitely will be coming here more as I really liked the food and atmosphere. Not super fancy but really...
Read moreA hidden gem, in an unexpected location. It truly is a "Don't judge a book by its cover". Inside is cozy, the music is good. The sushi chef is cool, and takes pride in his work. He watches for your reaction, lol. I almost don't want to share so it's all mine alone. I went for lunch and had the Baja Fresh, dressed with Japanese mustard soy sauce gave it that unique creativity. The goza on point. The Chicken Ramon was fancy with fresh ingredients. The egg yoke was perfectly runny. I wish I took pictures it was all beautiful and the service was like being invited into their home. I went back for dinner (same day). I had the double double and it was worth it. I had no need for soy sauce or Wasabi, any sauce for that matter. I got to talk to chef, same guy all day, who very proudly talked about where they source their fish. As far as Norway and Japan. Four deliveries a week, for quality and freshness. And you can taste it. The price is more than reasonable for the quality, atmosphere...
