First off, I want to thank the staff for a special stay at Le Sands Oceanfront. As I will explain not only was the hotel an amazing value, but everything from the staff to the facilities was top notch.
Checking in blew me away. Upon my taxi arriving to the front I was greeted by two doormen, one who took my bag and the other who opened the door. I went to the front desk, told them I had a reservation, and then they asked for my passport and to go sit down in the cafe area.
In sitting down I was greeted by a lady named Misa, who coordinated arrivals and activities for guests. In my ten days stay she was outstanding, always pleasant, very helpful, and genuinely enjoyed her job. In joining me at the cafe she had the cafe staff bring a welcome drink and hot towel, and then we chatted while the front desk was handling my reservation. When the reservation was complete she showed me to my room, and inside explained the minibar, how to activate the power in the room, etc etc. Of all the hotels I've stayed in my career, and I've stayed at luxury hotels, the welcome and reservation process was by far the best. They even had a welcome fruit basket and plate full of treats in the room. Truly special, and I was blown away.
The stay was just as great, and I'll start with the room. Getting into the room was activated by a key, and in the ten days during my stay it worked every time in all locations. I've never had that happen, even at 5 star hotels. The bed was extremely comfortable, so much so that some days I slept longer just to enjoy the bed. The room was spacious, with the bed (a king), a small soft overlooking the balcony and beyond, a desk to work, a refrigeration to cool drinks, a closet with enough space, and a safe to store items while I was gone.
The TV and internet worked quite well. The TV had a great mix of foreign and local channels, with Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Italian, and English channels, and a few good movie, news, and sports channels. I was able to watch some of my favorite movies and sporting events there. The internet was never down, and worked very well. I streamed a few shows, and there was no problem.
The balcony was outstanding. There was enough room for two chairs and a small table, with enough width and length to not feel like you were standing on edge. The barrier was made of glass, which opened up a breathtaking view of the sea, of the Lady Buddha to the north and the rest of Da Nang to the south. It was nice to sit out there and listen to the busyness of the street below.
The bathroom was spacious. The toilet was very good, the sink good, and the shower was outstanding.
As far as the rest of the facilities, they were top-notch. My only slight complaint would be about the restaurant. The menu online was different than the menu provided, and other than the spring rolls I thought it was a bit overpriced.
The location of the hotel was no problem for me, as I wanted something a little away from the main area. There were plenty of restaurants nearby, most very good, a market that sold items for a good price (they weren't just gouging tourists, though I did think some of the restaurant prices, especially for fish, shrimp and lobster was a bit high), and a kind older man who made great bahn mi sandwiches.
I also like the location because it was right in front of the local neighborhoods. I used much of my time to walk through there....if you want to see more of real Vietnam, just venture a few blocks into the interior from the beach. I found some great restaurants, cafes, a good co-op market, and an amazing sushi restaurant.
Another thing....don't worry about finding taxis in the area, as they are out in front of the hotel almost all hours of the night. The rates are metered, and at the most they charge 16K VND per km, and most in the 10-12K range.
Five stars and an unforgettable, special experience all around, and I will return! Le Sands mirrors Vietnam's effort in building its prestige to the outside world. I was moved and...
Read moreA friend of mine had booked the hotel, it was strongly recommended, did not expect this to happen on me. The only Vietnamese I learned in Vietnam was used on the first night of my stay, bồn cầu bị kẹt, the toilet was blocked. I called the front desk, the staff sent an engineer to fix the problem. Although he solved the problem in less than two minutes, my wife and I dared not to take a dump in the room again.
Then we took a shower and found that the shampoo smelled like rotten egg, but it was already 11 or 12 pm, we had full load of schedules tomorrow, so we decided to use our own shampoo and shower gel instead and report the situation tomorrow after the breakfast. Then the next morning we found water dripping from the air conditioner, we want to repoort all that before we leave the hotel, but the driver urged us to leave, we had to make the complaint after we returned to the hotel And it was already 10 o'clock.
The front desk called an engineer to come up and wipe the air conditioner, After he left another staff provided us witha shampoo. We thought that all the issues were solved and we are planning to go to bed. Yet when we try to take a shower we found that the shower soap was also smelled weird, We have to call the front desk again, the front desk asked staff to send us the shower soap, I unscrewed the bottle cap and the soap seemed ok. However, when i tried to take the shower, all the soap i pressed out of the bottle semlled funny.
I ended up calling the front desk again, one staff came up, I explained to him in English, he responded to me in Vietnamese, the only thing I understood was the "front desk" and "ok".
Then I sent him off the room, stating that it was okay, because it was very late, I was about to use shampoo as a shower gel.
After i took a shower and was planning to go to bed, I suddenly found an unknown stain on the blanket, which should have undergone room service today, and there were unknown hairs on the pillow.
I call the front desk again. I told the front desk to get someone who speak English to come up, and finally, a person who looked like a manager came up and I explained to him all the problems I was having in the pasted two days. I made it clear that I need not any compensation nor room change. I just want to reflect all the problems i had encountered. First the manager said, the air conditioner dripping were normal, that because we had opened the balcony. But my wife and I did not open the balcony for more than 10mins, he can provide us with another shampoo and shower gel. I then showed him the stained blanket. He said he understood, then we asked him to leave the room because it was late and there is nothing he could do. After a while, the manager called and said that he could arrange someone to change the blanket for us, but my wife and I refused because it was already 12 o'clock.
When checked out the next morning, I stated those problems to another manager and again stated very clear that we did not want any compensation, she said that she could arrange a free ride to the airport and we rejected the offer.
All in all, the staff at the hotel are enthusiastic, and the environment and swimming pool are very worthy, But the facilities and cleanliness still have alot that could be work on. We can accept some situation, but with so many situations happening at the same time, I can't accept that. Besides, the price of the hotel were not exactly cheap. 40USD was sorta worthy, not worthy if the price...

Based these good reviews, I booked this hotel for my entire family and my friends. Our booking was through Agoda with reasonable prices (except 1 room, which was through a VNese agent. Check in and check out processes were smooth. We had a misunderstanding regarding a surcharge fee for the fireworks festival. Thanks to the young lady and another man whom took the time to explain for me. When we checked in, we were welcomed with their signature juice and cold towels (it was cool). All staffs were nice and polite, especially the restaurant staff. Exceptions were the security staff in basement and one lady: Thy Nguyen- manager. I didn't know her name even she wore a name tag. I went back to reception to ask for her name for the review and found out that she was a manager- not a lead like I had thought. I was curious how she could train such an excellent staff yet she ... Things need to improve: The security staff at basement: we rented a motorcycle and had free parking in the basement for multiple in/out. Out all the times I entered and exited the parking, only twice was there a security person there to help me with my motorbike and to greet me. All other times, I had to manage by myself and there was not a soul in sight. This issue isn't big deal, but it was very different at the other 2 hotels I stayed previously. There was someone in the parking basement to greeting and help me. It made me feel at home. WORST Experience for my ÐN trip: I wanted to spend more time in the hotel and ÐN, but I was not sure whether a half day or 1 more night. I went to reception to ask for prices. When I got there, there were 3 opened windows. Two were busy, one was available. I asked a young lady : " Hello. How much for late check out at 6pm?" She didn't know the answer, so she asked the older lady who was helping another customer next to her. I thought the older lady was a lead because her uniform was different from the others. The lead asked me: when I wanted to late check out and my room #. I didn't remember my room #, so I told her my room had 2 bedrooms. She asked me try to remember the room #. I told her maybe 1702 (I told her that because my mom told me " your room # numerically added up to equal 9 and my floor was 17). I didn't remember my room # because I didn't use it, I paid by cash or credit for every service I used. The " lead " checked on her computer and asked " will u check out today?" I said " No, tomorrow " Then she suddenly frowned, raised her voice, and demanded that I clearly stated my room #. OMG, her action was rude and made me felt like I did something very bad. I think that there are numerous ways to figure my room number without resorting to her bad attitude. All I wanted to know was pricing to help me decide whether to lengthen my stay or not because I hadn't book airline tickets yet.
Thanks to her poor attitude which helped make my decision quickly: I wanted to leave Le Sands Hotel ASAP. I wanted to give the hotel 1 STAR but I think it's unfair to the others who tried their best and...
