SNAPSHOT: Havana Hotel boasts over 1,000 rooms and is around 40-60 minutes drive from the airport. Public hotel spaces are very busy and consequently noisy, but our (high floor) rooms were very quiet. We were very satisfied with our initial Deluxe Seaview room and then the complimentary upgrade to a Junior Suite Ocean QB. Both room types were of high quality offering impressive beachfront views. Nothing to be really impressed about regarding the buffet breakfast, except to say that a very wide range of choices is offered (Asian/International). Pool and gym facilities are available. Reception staff were friendly, informative and very helpful. We recommend this hotel overall.||BE AWARE: Make sure you arrange for transport to the hotel either in advance or by negotiation once you arrive at the airport. We didn't and paid VND640K by metered taxi from the airport. The taxi driver was very, very happy. On the way back we found a private driver in advance and paid VND300K. A buffet breakfast is duplicated on two separate floors to accommodate the big numbers of guests at this hotel.||CRITIQUE: We stayed for 2nights/3 days here and then transferred to Sunrise Hotel (see our other review). We enjoyed both hotels, each offering something different during our time on the Nha Trang beach strip. Havana Hotel is a high quality hotel attracting large numbers of tourists. It's location directly across from the beach (accessible by an underground private walkway) is a big plus. Our high floor rooms were modern, well appointed, clean, spacious and quiet. Wifi was strong as was the hot water. Direct views to the ocean were outstanding. The usual hotel essentials were supplied: complimentary coffee/tea and bottled water in the studio room proper and shampoo, liquid soap etc in the bathroom. Other main room features include: cable TV, safety box, and mini-fridge. No ceiling fans, but good AC. Web photos are somewhat misleading - the adult pool on the second floor is not large, especially given that there are over 1,000 rooms in the hotel, but there is a separate infant's pool. The hotel reception area is big and bold, with plenty of places to sit and a few food/drink outlets. No issues with either check-in or check-out. The hotel has about 6 or so card-access elevators. We cannot remark on the rooftop entertainment and viewing area as we did not go up there except to say there is a charge and it's only available from 5pm onwards. One night each week is free for ladies.||BEYOND THE HOTEL: The Nha Trang beach esplanade is worth exploring in both directions no matter where you stay, though we found the much wider bayfront beach in Da Nang near the White Sand Hotel of even better quality. It's good to see that local authorities in coastal regions of Vietnam keep their streets and beaches clean and well maintained; not so in the larger cities. We recommend an excellent (but rather pricey) seafood restaurant close to the hotel, Hải sản Mộc quán Nha Trang. Havana Hotel offers easy access to plenty of local restos, tourist shopping and supermarkets either by walking or e-hail ride.||ADVICE: Research the various room types before booking. We scored well. Hope you do too. It also helps to stay in Nha Trang during the non-rainy season if you are hoping for consistently clear skies and a blue sea. ||SHOUT-OUTS: Thanks to hotel management for giving us a complimentary room upgrade on our...
Read moreBe sure not to come to this hotel. The hotel treats its guests like fools and defrauds customers. It was the male receptionist who was at the front desk at 11pm on April 9th. This is a hotel with disco dancing and shaking the floor at night. I couldn't bear it, so I called the front desk at that time. Since I had booked for two days, I hoped that the front desk would change the room tomorrow. Logically speaking, this is completely possible and there is no problem. As a result, the liar at the front desk actually told me that the lowest floor of this room type is the 36th floor. There are no twin rooms below the 36th floor, only double bed rooms. What a lie. Not to mention that the website says there are twin rooms on floors 6-41. With so many people coming and going, how could we not know? Anyone with a brain would know that such a large hotel cannot have twin rooms only on the top six floors, but he wanted us to believe so and kept saying that there are no twin rooms below the 36th floor. He thinks we don't know and treats us as fools talking nonsense. I told him that you were lying and that this was not true. He immediately began to pretend that he did not understand English, even though he had communicated very smoothly before. Hope the hotel can deal with this nonsense person. Regarding the request to change rooms the next day due to hotel problems, a normal hotel would do this. Since the reservation was made for two days, changing rooms and checking in again would be a toss and trouble for us. I myself suffered a loss. If I take the initiative to ask for a room change due to hotel problems, they should change it, especially if I have a reservation for the next day. The hotel should arrange it for us tomorrow after someone checks out. This is without any difficulty and without any additional cost. It is exactly what we deserve because booking for two consecutive days is the same price as booking for one day. But they didn't. It would be fine if they just didn't do much, but the key is that they actually deceived us like fools. At the same time, there is a large horizontal bar in front of the sea view room, which almost completely blocks the beach. You have to stand on tiptoes and stretch your neck out of the window to see a little of the beach. The view and experience are very bad. The pictures of other rooms of the same type online are not like this. In addition, we were not allowed to change rooms, which made us feel...
Read moreI chose this hotel because it’s an old, well-known hotel in Nha Trang. However, the expectations I had for a pleasant trip — which any five-star hotel should be able to provide — were never met. Havana is unlike other five-star hotels. Its lobby is crowded and suffocating, with décor reminiscent of upscale markets from decades ago. The welcome drink is placed in a large container, like roadside iced tea, for self-service. I embraced this as a part of the local culture and naively thought it would be an energetic and comfortable trip. However, the facilities and staff attitudes here were the worst I’ve ever encountered in any five-star (or even four-, three-, or two-star) hotel I’ve visited.||The first staff member assigned me a room on the 17th floor. The room had such outdated amenities that I felt like I was in a two-star hotel in some underdeveloped country. The floor was sticky and grimy. As usual, after I complained, the receptionist sent staff to do a quick wipe of the floor, which remained sticky and grimy. Noticing my disappointment, the housekeeper suggested I wear slippers in the room?! After I requested a room change, I noticed that the new room didn’t match the one advertised and agreed upon when I booked. With a condescending attitude and no apology, a bellman named Hoai Phuong led us to the new room and then went back to the 17th floor to retrieve our room key. He was so rude that when we asked about the room change process, he claimed it was not his responsibility to help carry any luggage and left us completely bewildered with three or four suitcases and bags.||I wish the story had ended there, but it didn’t. The new room appeared slightly better than the old one — at least the floor was no longer sticky like in some student dorm room — but it was covered with long, curly hair and even body hair from a previous guest. A five-star hotel can have old or worn-out interiors — that’s a business decision, as the hotel can continue using its furnishings until fully depreciated. But hair from private areas scattered across the room? This is the first hotel I’ve ever seen, regardless of it being a two- or five-star establishment, where this has happened. As you can see from the picture, if they can’t even print their own hotel name correctly on the room key, don’t expect any of their services to be...
