A very satisfying 2nd stay of mine. There was an internet outage (twice indeed, if we count a brief provincial government mandated power outage) with a satisfactory compensation, that I talked to Ms. Nguyet already, but I write in this review as well.
The last night of my stay, I lost WiFi around 7pm. I thought it was temporary, so I took shower, but I still couldn't connect any devices after restarting, so I reported to the reception around 7:30. I had a staff in my room to confirm he couldn't connect his phone as well. I hadn't had heard from them for a while, and I needed internet for my work before New York and Toronto stock exchanges opened, so I went to the reception. Mr. Nguyen suggested me to move to a different room. I already knew they didn't have any portable WiFi during the previous outage, so I asked them if they have or are able to procure a SIM card with a few GB, so I could pop it in my phone and create a hotspot while the issue getting rectified. This solution should cost them less than cleaning 2 rooms that I may end up staying. He told me it would be impossible for them to get a SIM for me, so I ended up purchasing a roaming package, as I needed a connection for my work, and I already waited for more than an hour.
The WiFi was restored around 10pm, and I was grateful that I didn't need to change rooms. I received a complimentary breakfast at Intercontinental next door as a negotiated compensation. Before noon before I checked out, Ms. Nguyet and Mr. Nguyen came to my room with a refreshment plate. I appreciated their gesture, and I expressed my satisfaction and a necessity of a contingency plan like the one I suggested above, as they will get another internet outage eventually, and it's almost as essential as water these days.
Some negatives I experienced was the washing machine gave my clothes moldy smell. Front load washers require more cleaning and disinfecting than top load models. I wonder if it's cleaned regularly.
Some of pillows were smelly.
While the hotel couldn't do much about it (unless they support noise bylaws), the excessive noise and lights from the club on the beach was annoying...
Read moreWe are Americans, in our 60’s, traveling Vietnam and the world so we stayed in a lot of hotels. My husband is an IHG Diamond and I have status at other brands.
I will preface this by saying we stayed at the ‘regular’ Intercontinental, right next door, for eight nights prior to moving here for 5 nights.
Let’s start with the best part. Our ‘apartment’ faces down the south beach. We were here for New Years Eve and as they started constructing the big stage we could tell we would have an absolute gem of a room to see the fireworks and the show, and we did. If for no other reason I would book this room again because of the view. We are in 2706.
The apartment is very large and having a washing machine has been a blessing. The apartment is very clean and the bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is modern and the shower is nice with very powerful jet shower and nice hot water. The towels are nice. The living room/dining room/kitchen is very spacious. It’s kind of weird for having a lovely kitchen with a full sized refrigerator, stove, oven and microwave— it has no cutlery, no plates or pots and pans. As a general rule we don’t cook anyway, but without breakfast, like we had next door, it’s hard to even make coffee and a biscuit without silverware and plates. There are some glasses and 2 very small coffee cups. It just kinda stuck me odd.
The balcony is huge and if we are in the apartment we spend time out there looking at the beach and people watching.
The pool looks nice but it’s not heated and is cold.
On the second floor is a beautiful restaurant. We have eaten there and the service is very good. The food comes from the other hotel but it’s fast and the ‘Living room’ has very good food at reasonable prices.
The staff at the front desk and the bellman are very polite and always are attentive but somehow it ‘feels’ different. I’m not sure what it is I can’t put my finger on it. Absolutely nothing is wrong here, it just doesn’t ‘feel’ like we are at an...
