Relaxing Stay at Sonaga Beach Resorts and Villa with Room for Improvement
Our recent stay at Sonaga Beach Resorts and Villa was overall a delightful experience, especially in terms of comfort, cleanliness, and location.
We stayed in a villa, which was spacious and clean, with well-maintained interiors and a pleasant ambiance. The check-in and check-out process was smooth, even with an online Agoda booking. There were no extra charges at check-out, and the airport transfers provided were timely and included as promised, without any hidden costs.
However, the villa setup lacked privacy—stepping out of the room exposed us directly to the villa entrance and shared spaces. The “private” pool also lacked adequate enclosure, which took away from the exclusive villa experience one would expect.
The villa included a kitchen, but it came without any utensils or crockery, which made it unusable. This was a notable downside for guests wanting the option to prepare or enjoy food privately.
Cleanliness was consistently good, not just in rooms but across the resort. Even pools not in use were clean and stocked with life jackets. The beachfront, which is directly accessible from the resort, was well-kept and vigilantly monitored by attentive beach guards, especially ensuring children’s safety.
The breakfast buffet offered a good variety of Asian dishes, though Indian options were lacking. Still, it was satisfying overall.
Room amenities were mostly adequate—Wi-Fi and air-conditioning were strong, and basic toiletries were well-stocked. That said, it would be helpful if the resort provided universal electrical converters and a small iron to keep clothes wrinkle-free.
Housekeeping was punctual, though on-demand services could be improved in terms of response time.
The location is another plus, with the Sonasea Night Market just a short walk away, making evening outings convenient and enjoyable.
Overall, this resort offers a pleasant family-friendly environment with ample amenities for children, a clean and safe beach, and a well-kept property.
Ideal for families or couples seeking beachside convenience, but those expecting complete villa privacy and in-villa functionality may want to explore...
Read moreWe had a very confusing stay with Sonaga. We booked the 4br villa for 7 nights through air bnb after a great deal of searching for a property suitable for young kids. Upon arrival to Phu Quoc we were told by our host that there was a 'problem with our booking' and our room had flooded. He tried to sell us alternatives but we demanded to see Sonaga. The staff there had no idea about our booking. They then said 'oh yes maintenance' after talking in Vietnamese to our host. So obviously this was an error or a scam by our air bnb host.
We ended up getting offered a villa for 4 nights and then a 'penthouse' apartment which was tiny and not ok for a family. We took the Villa for the first 4 nights. We had to find alternative accom, for 7 people, from boxing day. Stressful doesn't scratch the surface. We lost our whole 1st day sorting Sonaga and another day trying to find accom for 7 people on Christmas eve.
The villa was fine, but we were grateful in the end to be able to leave. The staff were quite unhelpful, whenever we called reception they simply hung up if they couldnt understand our question. We had to request beds for the kids 7 times before they were delivered. We had to pay $30 AUD per DAY to have cutlery, plates, cups etc supplied to the 'self-contained' villa. Apparently this was standard... nowhere else in the world have I heard this. A tired old sponge and no detergent supplied. No pool furniture, we had to request this. The villas perimeter can't be secured, there are huge gaps in the concrete walls allowing neighbours to see and pass through your villa. Not safe for wandering children.
The pool bar at the main pool isn't open and the gym equipment is average at a stretch.
Upside is a decent breakfast and short walk to the night market. Silver lining that our booking was messed up as we went to stay at The Shells which was a...
Read moreSonaga Beach Resort Phu Quoc, the hotel is super not recommended for everyone to stay; this trip was a failure. I booked two luxurious mountain view suites with one bedroom and one living room. I had already emailed the hotel in advance to request a king-sized room and another with two single beds.|First, upon our arrival at the hotel at 7:30 PM on the first night, the lobby staff reported that the deluxe mountain view suite was full, but only had a king-sized bed. They suggested arranging an extra bed. 😒 Hotel said an alternative room type of two beds was unacceptable. On the next day, when I checked my family's room, I realized that neither of the so-called deluxe suites had a single bedroom or living room; instead, they only offered a standard room type. It turned out that our room type had been downgraded. So on the third day, I contacted Trip. Communication, on Trip. After contacting the hotel, they said the hotel could help us switch back to the correct room. They informed the staff that the deluxe suite with two beds was full and suggested moving to Villa. Moving back to the deluxe suite the next day 😤 I was exhausted from staying for 5 days and had to switch to three rooms, so I ultimately refused to do so. This is a scam; under no circumstances should you stay.|The hotel facilities are relatively outdated. Breakfast seems like a lot of food, but it's not quite right. Only the soup powder is edible; the toaster isn't hot enough, and no matter how many times you bake it, it's still not hot enough 🙂↕ The ️ coffee is extremely unpleasant to drink.|Although the hotel is really terrible, the service is also terrible. But I can't help but praise Trip. Customer service tirelessly helped contact the hotel throughout the process, with hotel staff stating that we agreed to the room downgrade and were unwilling to adjust...
