Uoc lee Hu is the young proprietor who has has wife, mother-in-law and sister-in law behind the counter helping. The rooms are spacious with cable tv, balconies, air conditioning, hot water, laundry service and a cooler of beer and soft drinks outside of the front door with picnic tables. The comforters and mattresses are high quality and though the hotel is directly across from the market, it has never been problematic This is the place to stay if you want something as laid back as a visit to a local market and experience SaPa, or take the new Legend to the top and back. It is allows They place to stay if you are more of an adventurers; consider taking the cable car up and waling down with a night and beautiful crepes the following morning. Or two days up and one down. Or, if you are an adventure freak have Uoc and an a small army of porters and guides sp and over 5 Fingers- hiking on remotes hunters and cardamon farmer trails. the terrain is steep and magnificence, though hardly of the light hearted. You will do about 10 hard miles a day with a lunch, a superb dinner over fire and a delicious breakfast to get your day started. Uoc is the go to guy in SaPa; I would not trust anyone else to provide me with a safe experience in the field and a comfortable and secure bed to sloop in white off...

This post is about the Innkeeper and Motorcycle Rental capacities of the hotel. Having already booked a spot in Sapa, I did not have the opportunity to stay there. I found Uoc after the motorbike I had rented in Hanoi broke down. I found myself without wheels in Sapa. Then i stumbled into the Mountaineer, drawn by his fleet of well maintained bikes outside the door.||||With no references or internet research, I immediately understood that Uoc was a gracious and integrous host. I rented a mint brand new Honda CR 125 from him- he even let me rent a one-way, shipping the bike back via bus from Ha-Long. The bike was the fastest bike on the road. Mr. Uoc took great pains to ensure I was both comfortable and well provisioned on my journey. As my adventure plans changed, he coordinated a return trip for the bike. Uoc's family run hotel directly across from the New Market has become a home away from home for me and many of my friends who do botanical work in this natural paradise. There have been many changes to SaPa over the past 20 years and one now has a plethora of choices. For spacious rooms, comfort, ( the beds and linens are first class), for a lovely welcome if not for simple value, this is one of the best in town. I cannot recommend The Mountaineer enough.
