All the lecturers are not very good at teaching at all....they might be the intelligent person but they don't know a single thing about teaching... They will take a week to teach abcd and they will take a week to teach how to drive a car so that means their material and time of teaching is really badly managed.
They just come in the lecture which is supposed to be 2 hr..... only only concerned about covering the material.....just start talking like a monotonous way.... sorry but 100%true ...many times impossible to understand accent. And lecturers whose accent is understandable they just talk casually in a very unstructured way which shows they did not prepare beforehand. ....
they don't know what the next slide will be even though they are using those same slides for several years with some minor changes. Which clearly shows their lack of prep and lack of structured material before the lecture.
And it happened to me many times if I interrupt them and ask a question what the reply is ...'"rude reply ASK AT THE END OF THE LECTURE"
Like what I paid you $84000 for this 3 year bull?? Surprisingly...they just finish the lecture in a very monotonous way in 1.5hr and just go home.
They might be the most intelligent person in their field but LITERALLY THEY GIVE ZERO concern about teaching.
you can just pay 50$ and buy a course online and learn 100 times more than these lecturers as online is very well structured.
because in my experience they won't teach you well... tutors and lecturers are (most of the time) working on their own things/projects and consider tutoring as a past time/ break activity so they don't really care about students in my opinion.
If you can find a better option go for that...if you just want a degree then it's okay.
But it is very sad that you just pay around maybe $80 000 just to get a degree as you have to learn from external resources.
But if you are coming here thinking you will learn from the best lecturers I tell you what you are making a mistake and coming to the wrong place this place is not for learning.
AND this review is coming from a student with highest ATAR (what you call in Australia).
I agree with all the 1 star reviews, and whatever those 4-5 star reviews all of them they talk about good infrastructure. For gods sake I don't give a concern... about infrastructure and all when all of the teacher aren't skilled in teaching and motivated to teach.
I can study in a tin shed and a oil lamp beside me for light as long as the teacher who is teaching me knows how to give his knowledge to his students in a good way and is motivated to teach...
NOT like just reading like a news reporter several years old slides and then just go home.
YOU ARE not teaching here ABCD in a first grade where if a student miss it ...a student has several years to catch up..
You are teaching here the highest level of education, which students will require just before stepping into the real world. And they have paid HEFTY AMOUNT OF $$ to you.... So put more thought into it.
Note: lecturers are not bad human beings they want their students to pass, however they don't know how to teach or are disinterested in teaching. Universities should spend more on training them rather than building different...
Read moreThis seems more like a party university. Of course, if you study well, you can get a qualification. But unlike ANU, you won't be very well supported and won't really gain in-depth knowledge in the field. And you won't be surrounded by bright and enthusiastic students who push you to do your best.
Reply to owner: Thank-you for your response. First, I must clarify: my reason for posting this review was to inform prospective students of what to expect of UC. I had only very brief experience with UC in the software engineering program but quickly found out that teachers, despite enthusiasm, were simply not ready to deliver the high-quality of teaching I expected based on the UC website. This was confirmed when I transferred to ANU and quickly realised how much I had been missing.
Furthermore, I am very concerned about the quality of teaching in the Nursing degree program; while graduates might rank the quality of teaching highly, I have been a registered nurse with Canberra Hospital for the past 10 years and have mentored at least 20 students from UC and ACU at varying points in their course. There is a very noticeable difference in the competence of the students, ACU being the clear winner on every occasion. I'm sad to see this because the students themselves are very eager but I think they are hamstrung by the lack of clear direction in their training at UC, specifically, they aren't being taught how to think critically, in the context of being a nurse. Despite voicing my concerns to their CLNs over the past years, I have yet to see any improvement.
Regarding the statistics: UC does not crack the top 20 Universities in Australia. And it isn't in the top 500 in the world.
Regarding employability, Canberra is a small city with only 2 universities based solely in Canberra. Given that most of your graduates are in healthcare, the highest employer in Canberra, it's no wonder most of your graduates get jobs.
Compared to ANU which has courses ranging from theoretical physics to Chinese studies, fields that don't employ many people.
It's good that students can have fun; my point, again, is that prospective students should not expect serious, high-quality education from UC. Instead expect a "party" university. I'm not saying this is a bad thing necessarily, I just want people to be aware of what they are getting at UC apart from the flashy banners on the UC website and around the...
Read moreThe University of Canberra (UC) is a public university in Bruce, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. The campus is within walking distance of Westfield Belconnen, and 8.7 km (5.4 mi) distance to Canberra's Civic Centre. UC offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering five faculties: Health, Art and Design, Business, Government and Law, Education and Science and Technology.
UC partners with two local ACT schools: UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra and University of Canberra High School Kaleen. The University of Canberra College provides pathways into university for domestic and international students.
The University of Canberra was first established in 1967 as the Canberra College of Advanced Education. The Canberra CAE became the University of Canberra under sponsorship of Monash University in 1990.
Over 70,000 students have graduated from the university since 1970.
The University of Canberra has grown by seventy-eight percent since 2007, going from 7,300 students to over 13,000 in 2014. The median Australian Tertiary Admission Rank of UC students is approximately 71.
The University has one campus, located in the suburb of Bruce, which covers 290 acres of buildings, roads and access routes. Being a small University with a small campus, there are just over 28 buildings, each dedicated to a particular discipline of learning or faculty. Most of these buildings are arranged around the main concourse. Each building is numbered and many do not hold any title or namesake. New students are always advised during orientation week that the buildings are not numbered in a particular order however, the buildings around the concourse are progressively numbered in a counter-clockwise direction from building 1. It is a common myth that the numbers relate to when each building was constructed, however, a master plan was designed to have these building around the concourse...
