Challenging but rewarding hike to the top. Starting at the botanical Gardens car park it took us 40 minutes with a steady fast pace including a few need-to-catch-my-breath breaks 😂 The path goes upwards fairly early, lots of steps are involved. The last part of the trail was honestly the best, Climbing over big boulders and rock formations, sometimes on all fours. It was exciting, we even saw a few cute rock wallabies at the top. Once we reached the peak the 360° view was magnificent, we stopped and had lunch. We went up around 2 pm and no one else was there. In my opinion the last part alias the Climbing is not suitable for children below teenage age! It is too dangerous for young ones who would need assistance. There's cliff drops on both sides on the top, there's no room for any messing around. It is fine until you reach the boulders, you still get very nice views from the 'platform' before the climbing part. I would also recommend to not go by yourself to the very top, have someone with you. Overall a beautiful and exciting hike, well worth it while visiting the...
Read moreAmazing views of Halls Gap and surrounding areas, stunning on a warm winters day. Hike from main camping ground is well worth the effort. The first half of the track runs through quintessential Grampians landscape, the rest opening up to a more rocky and challenging track. Sturdy feet are needed when walking along the summit, as well as for the rest of the track. Some “rock-scrambling” is needed to pass some points on the top, but a good view is also achieved by not completing the most difficult part of the hike. A huge amount of care needs to be taken on the top as on both sides there is quite a fall, well worth the...
Read moreNot the largest but certainly still an impressive high point in the Grampians, being an hour or so each way via the Botanical Gardens.
The terrain gradually changes as you walk through and we certainly benefited from the strategic 'rest/revive' spots on the journey. The climb evolved from countless steps to some scramble and slide rocks along the ridgeline which certainly rewarded you with brilliant views of the town and associated valley.
Well recommended - will return to tackle it again next visit.
I don't understand how people wear jeans and knitted jumpers and thongs. Honestly this isn't the trek for that kind...
