It was hard to rate this cafe and let me explain why I gave it a 3 star. I eat out a a lot! And usually around the world. I have a high tolerance for average food, slow service and places that lack ambience. Tonight, in this small town, they unfortunately struggled with the ‘rush’ of holiday makers which brought about many unhappy customers. I wasn’t one of them in the same respects. Firstly, it took 10 minutes in a queue for my order to be taken. When you place an order, that person also gets you your drinks which may mean luring s glass of wine, getting you a bottle of beer or mixing up a cocktail. So the queue waits. The person pays, is given a number and then either waits outside or inside for their order. Secondly there are tables inside and one person is managing those. She’s doing the best she can serving food, clearing tables etc but she’s also helping serve the takeaways to people outside. So when my pizza arrived on a platter with spatula - no plate or napkin. The table next to me, a family of four, were also struggling with this but like most of us - made it work. However, a woman behind us had been waiting an hour for her food. She was politely grumpy and staff Knew it but her meal just didn’t arrive. I’d come and gone and that was 40 minutes and she still hasn’t eaten. I offered her some of mine just in case but she had a dietary requirement and politely declined. My large Italians pizza was tasty and the staff were friendly and gave me a box to take the rest back to my accommodation for lunch. But $29 for a pizza and a glass of wine was excessive even for a tourist town still in the midst of late school holidays and pending Anzac Day the next day. Staff are nice and friendly but they lack the experience of a capital city restaurant pressure. Would have been nice to have a newspaper or magazine to read during the long break. Use of phone was challenging as the whole network fell over earlier in the week because of the volume of people in town. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly sky. High chair available. Good parking across the road in...
Read moreMy family and I visited for our first night in the Grampians, and we wish we had gone elsewhere.
Initially asked about the vegetarian parma and vegetarian schnitzels to find out what ingredients were in it (due to food allergies). Instead, they said they were unsure as the vegetarian parma and schnitzels were from frozen meals they heated up.
The food was cold and tasteless and included items that were not on the menu. For example, the vegan pizza included capsicum in it - despite this not being on the menu. We ordered this without knowing the capsicum was included, and upon finding out asked for a refund as it was a major food allergy for a member of my family. The staff at the Black Panther Cafe refused to give a refund, despite the mistake being on their part as they do not label the toppings correctly on their pizzas. After my refusal to leave, a refund was finally provided. Later on, as the rest of my family were eating their meals - the same staff member came out to our table to apologise poorly. We clearly indicated we did not wish to talk about the situation further - asking them to leave. They could not take the hint that we did not want their company around us - we just wanted to eat our meal in peace. Eventually, they left us alone.
Overall, extremely poor customer service and unnecessary arguing over providing a refund. Additionally, the rest of our meals were quite plain, cold and very small servings. I also ordered a strawberry milkshake, and it tasted like milk with Nesquik mixed in. If you ordered anything that had chip with it, you would only get a few cold chips - as if they just threw some on there without thinking.
We will definitely not return, and if I could, I would give the Black Panther Cafe zero stars. Do not visit this cafe if you have food allergies and dietary requirements, as they do not know how to cater for...
Read moreWasn't happy with the wait time or quality of my food. My food took nearly 30 mins and my friends order was forgotten about and came 10 mins after mine. I ordered the smashed avocado and everything on my plate was cooked incorrectly. The eggs were over done, the bread wasn't toasted, the roasted tomatoes weren't roasted at all. I waited for my friends food to arrive before starting my food and then my food was cold by the time I ate it because they forgot about my friends order. Her food was cooked incorrectly also. Wasn't going to say anything because I didn't want to look like a Karen but I overheard other people having the same issues as me and decided to bring it up with what seemed to either be the owner or a manager at least. This man argued with me, spoke over me, called in other workers to have his back and it just felt like I was being bullied. He denied that my friends order was forgotten about, he said all eggs are over cooked and he can't serve soft poached eggs. I said my friends egg was cooked correctly and he retorted back with thats why it took so long for her order. I'm pretty sure her egg being softer than mine means her eggs would take less time. I was so upset by the end of this interaction that I asked for a refund and he refused. I kept telling him I'm entitled to give feedback without being argued with and he would just interrupt me and tell me I'm wrong. He crossed his arms and said okay are we done. A whole line of customers walked out after seeing this interaction, he could have just dealt with the situation with Grace but instead lost paying customers. Do yourself a favour and go to the...
