Man am I glad I came across the Collins House Apartments!! This was my first time traveling to Melbourne so I was a little worried about booking accommodation. Especially over the Cup week. You can read reviews, look at photos and scour google maps to see the location, but there is always that little bit of hesitation in the back of your mind that you may have booked a crack house. Anyhoo this is far far from that. From receiving a friendly phone call a week prior to check in and then also a text the day before showing what the front door looks like put my mind at ease!! Upon entering the automatic green doors we were greeted by the warm and friendly general manager Kylee. We were promptly checked in and shown how to get to our apartment. Kylee mentioned we had a fabulous view from our room AND SHE WASNT WRONG!! We had the most amazing high view of the city, which at night time provided a stunning light show. The 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment was clean, modern and quite spacious. Whenever staying in apartments I imagine what it would be like to live in one of these, and this Iād be very comfortable in. The bathroom has a spacious shower with a great sized shower head and great water pressure. The kitchen was massive and had everything youād need from a large fridge, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and all the utensils to cook up a storm⦠but I came to realise whoād want to cook when youāre a stones throw from a thousand different cafes, restaurants and eateries. The lounge room had aircon (which was easy to use and cooled/warmed the room easily and quickly) and tv with Netflix and other streaming services. The bedroom had a very comfortable king size bed with bloody comfortable pillows. The lounge room and bedroom shared the same amazing view. If you have the windows closed there is next to no sound from the streets down below and even when we did have tue windows open I found the city noise quite comforting. The only minor downfall was that there was only 3 coat hangers lol and since we were down for Darby Day and The Cup I had to fight my partner for the use of them. But in all honesty that is it and if I was really that desperate there were a few cheap stores around the corner I could have grabbed some from.
There are 2 Tram stops within 50m of walking out the green doors. So once we got our bearings and figured which way was north, traveling on the tram was a breeze and mostly everywhere we went was within the free tram services. But definitely make sure you take a stroll around. The architecture around CH is bloody stunning!! And again location is so close to many amazing cafes and restaurants.
Ok Iāll shut up now. Hopefully youāve made it this far and Iāve won you over to book this place. If you just scrolled to the bottom and skipped my blabber then just go and bloody book this place!! You...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I were visiting family in Melbourne and decided to stay in the city. We found Collins House online and it had excellent ratings and reviews.||Our request for a late 10pm check in was easily accommodated and we were provided with a contact number for the night staff. Messages were communicated to us in a timely manner. |When we arrived at Collins House, we were impressed with the security to access the building as well as the lifts up to our floor. Front desk was very helpful. The lobby was warm and stylish. ||They apartment itself was on the 40th floor, so you can imagine the brilliant views we were treated to! We booked a 1bedroom with a kitchennette, dining and living area with TV.||It was clean, modern and very comfortable. I liked the fact that they provided almost every amenity for their guests. There were plenty of hangers for our clothes, shower gel, shampoos and conditioner affixed in the bathroom, hand soap & body lotion, and best of all, actual space to place all our toiletries. This made it so much easier to prepare for the day. I was delighted as I carry about a million things in my toiletry bag! ||The bed and pillows were super comfortable and we had sound sleep every night. ||The bright and airy kitchen was equipped with more than adequate pots and pans, plates, cups and glasses with cooking and eating utensils. All were neatly hidden behind wooden doors and cupboards. It made the space look neat and spacious but each time we wanted to access something in the fridge or do the laundry, we had to first open a door or cupboard. I understand why they designed it as such. The decor was very streamlined and neat. ||We cooked our own breakfast every morning with ease. The fridge was huge and sparkly clean. There was also a dishwasher, washer and dryer. We were able do some laundry with the detergent provided. Dishwashing liquid and dishwasher tablets were also available. When we ran out of these, front desk replenished them for us very quickly. ||There are restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance of the apartments. The tram stop and train station are also a short walk away. It really is very conveniently located in the heart of the city. ||We asked for a late checkout as we had a night flight. My email was promptly replied and they managed to arrange a late checkout for us for a fee. We enquired if we could store our bags with them till later in the evening and they were happy to do that for us. Checkout was easy and front desk staff were so helpful and friendly. ||The night before we checked out, I received a message from the General Manager, Kylee Lowden, thanking me for choosing Collins house and welcoming me back. It was unexpected but I thought it was a very nice gesture, a personal touch for the guests which was much appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful stay and yes, I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNothing to complain at all about this property. We arrived at nearly 1am and was super worried there would be no one at the counter to check us in. But then there was someone (although we had to knock on the building window to get his attention to open the main entrance). The check in was very quick. Nothing complicating.
The cool thing about this apartment is you could message them at Agoda message or their direct messaging and they would reply. The manager Kylee also personally sent us messages to ask whether everything was going well. So it was a plus.
The room was very nice. Beyond what we expected. Very spacious and minimal/modern/simple styled. AC worked very well. It was very cold out there and it kept us warm. We were upgraded to a 2-bedroom apartment. There was 1 AC in the living area which the 2nd bedroom shared. Another AC was in the big bedroom. Both ACs worked fine. Kept us well conditioned.
It's an apartment. People have been using it. So think of it as a home, like your home. There would be wear and tear here and there. In our apartment, the sink wasn't drained too well / the manual lock on the entrance door inside the apartment didn't work / the furniture door which was supposed to open together with the fridge door was broken. But these issues didn't bother us. I'm sure our homes have flaws. And they are acceptable as long as the apartment is clean and tidy. And it was.
When you need things, like tissue paper, you have to come down to the reception to ask for them. I guess that's not bad.
The security for entering the building was great. You also have security for getting into the elevator. So I liked the safety aspect of this place.
It's walking distance to 7-11 / Woolworths Metro / and everything else.
You probably will be in trouble if you rented a car as I didn't see any nearby parking facilities. So when we needed a rental car, we just ubered to the rental place and returned it there and ubered back. Cost only 10-20AUD to do that.
We stayed 4 nights here and we will definitely stay here again when we visit Melbourne next time. It's not Mandarin Oriental or the Peninsula. But it's a cozy place to stay considering the value for money as it's definitely...
