Dear Management of Beatty Park Leisure Centre,
I am writing to formally address an incident that occurred on 2nd December 2024 at approximately 5:50 PM involving one of your personal trainers. I have been a loyal patron of Beatty Park Leisure Centre since 2016, consistently paying my fees and conducting myself respectfully towards both staff and fellow members. Throughout this time, I have greatly appreciated the professionalism and dedication of your team, including managers Dale, Jeff, Ricci, and Mark, as well as the trainers.
However, I experienced a distressing encounter during my workout session. While exercising with a friend and sharing equipment in accordance with gym etiquette, one of your trainers approached me, removed the cable we were using, and accused me of chatting and not sharing equipment. I calmly explained that I was not involved in any conversations and was focusing on my workout. Even when another gym-goer clarified that they were the one talking, the trainer continued to unfairly target me, giving me attitude and provoking me unnecessarily.
Despite my attempts to resolve the misunderstanding peacefully, the trainer persisted, causing me significant alarm and distress. When I raised my voice and asked to be left alone, Mark, your manager, intervened to de-escalate the situation. I appreciated Mark’s efforts and followed his instructions to calm down.
Key Concerns:
Unfair Treatment: The trainer unfairly targeted and accused me without evidence. Harassment and Provocation: Despite clarifications, the trainer continued to provoke me, causing unnecessary emotional distress. Professional Conduct: As a paying member, I expect staff to treat all patrons fairly and respectfully, in line with consumer protections under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
Under the ACL, I am entitled to: • Fair and respectful treatment as part of the services I pay for. • Freedom from harassment or distress caused by staff.
Request for Resolution:
I am not seeking punitive action, but I kindly request the following: That this trainer be reminded of the importance of professional conduct and fairness in interactions with members. If this trainer cannot engage respectfully, I ask that they refrain from interacting with me in the future.
I trust that Beatty Park Leisure Centre values its patrons and upholds high standards of customer service. I have six witnesses who can corroborate my account, should you require further details. I would also appreciate it if you could review my history as a member since 2016, which reflects my commitment to being a respectful and cooperative...
Read moreSigned up with swim school for private lessons with special needs child. Was given wrong price for monthly lessons. Close to over $100 more dollars than anticipated. That wasn’t fun. Quoted $120, paid $214. Bit of a difference. Doesn’t even add up for payment in advance. Show up to lessons, granted late - my problem, teachers gone home but wasn’t told when signing up that if your 15 minutes late the teacher will leave. That’s pretty important info for our family as sometimes we are late due to issues with my daughters disability. We are also coming from a distance so if there’s an accident or something, I know not to bother if more then 15 late. The person manning front counter was happy to give as little help as possible - were new clients and have no idea where lessons are taking place given first lesson. I was expecting to be issued a card to tag in and out. Not the case. I have to check in, so again more time to consider, line etc. Just an over all frustrating experience. I have previously usually enjoy coming to Beatty Park, I used to bring the kids when they were younger, as a casual/occasional swimmer, during weekends or holidays with friends given the distance. But to do business with has been awful so far. Just sign up but don’t tell us the important stuff. As a disabled family it’s really important to know about being late, as sometimes getting on time to places isn’t easy with a high needs child. I would have just stayed home and wouldn’t have stressed so hard to get there if I knew about the 15 min rule. I wonder what else I don’t know. Guess won’t know till I stumble across it which is again frustrating, especially, if it can be avoided. Not a great experience so far. Hope I haven’t made a mistake signing up. Especially given how special needs swimming is so niche and limited places for special...
Read moreReview might be harsh - it's the best public pool in the area, possibly in Perth. Low bar though - these places invariably have 1 Olympic training pool and 1 kids play pool. It's better then the alternatives because the kids play pool is huge and has a good combo of lesson areas and play sections.
But really, if any council built a swim venue that added a third 'waterpark' area of the same size as the standard 2 areas, with slides aimed at 10-17 or leisure areas/spas, THAT would deserve 5 stars. At present, I think we're under served for such a facility.
Conversely, it doesn't hold a candle to challenge stadium as an elite training centre - I swam up to national championship / 1st div pennants level and it's disappointing that Beatty Park is still a 'one gear' facility, with a decent public gym but no 2nd gym geared for Olympic athletes, and less ancillary training facilities than what was available to us in either of the 2 elite squads (2 different clubs sharing the aquatic section of challenge stadium back then , plus the divers and water polo club, and we still had better access to Olympic quality facilities then BP today, and we could actually gear them for elite training because they were separate from the public gym).
I know that sounds harsh, but BP is (was?) the home of a club with a proud history and many Olympians. We always beat them in the pennants (we won the top div every year in the early 90s) but they were always strong and could reliably bring a couple of Olympic medalists to the meet. From memory, one was even in the relay team that smashed the Americans like guitars at the Sydney Olympics.
They...
