UPDATE 28/6/2025
1 Star - Ongoing Customer Service Issues Continue
Yet another disappointing experience at Dulwich Hill IGA this morning at 8:30am. Despite having already reviewed this location for discriminatory treatment and unprofessional staff behavior, nothing has changed.
Today's incident involved staff who were dismissive and condescending during service, treating me as if I didn't understand basic payment procedures. When collecting my pizza, I was made to retrieve it myself from next to the terminal rather than having it placed in the bagging area properly.
Most unprofessionally, the staff member and her colleague were openly laughing and making comments about me during and after the transaction. This behavior is completely unacceptable in any retail environment.
As someone with over 6,000 Google reviews and Gold reviewer status, I've experienced customer service across many businesses. Having worked in hospitality management for 14 years myself, I would never treat a customer with such blatant disrespect.
This is now multiple incidents of poor treatment from staff at this location. I will be making other customers aware of the ongoing service issues here through my review platform.
I will not be returning despite the convenience of this location. Management clearly needs to prioritize proper staff training and professional conduct.
As a frequent customer who visits this IGA location sometimes daily, I'm disappointed by the consistently negative experiences I've had with bag checks and staff treatment.
Despite claims that "everyone's bags are checked," I regularly watch other customers proceed through checkout without inspections while I'm singled out every time. I deliberately position my body and keep my bag in full view of staff to avoid the embarrassment of being asked for yet another bag check, but it happens regardless. The same managers repeatedly follow me through the store in an obvious manner, making me feel like a suspect rather than a valued customer.
In one particularly uncomfortable incident, a female staff member looked me up and down (even at my damaged phone), then rudely demanded to check my bag. When I mentioned being a regular customer, my comments were dismissed. Later, I witnessed what appeared to be staff members watching and discussing me through the window while I was outside unlocking my bike.
Just today, despite being in twice and keeping my bag visibly open, I was subjected to an unusually thorough search where the staff member handled my personal items including my laptop and stationery.
I want to emphasize that I have a good-paying job as an educator and am also a psychology student. I worked in hospitality management for 14 years, so I always approach staff with courtesy and professionalism, yet rarely receive the same treatment in return. I maintain a neat, professional appearance and am not simply "whinging" about minor inconveniences.
The most troubling aspect is how these interactions affect me emotionally. Every time I leave this store, I feel deeply triggered and upset. These experiences are genuinely harmful to my mental health, being treated in such an obviously different way from other customers. What's most frustrating is seeing actual theft occur without intervention, while I face this targeted scrutiny.
I value having IGA as my local grocery option, but these experiences make me question whether I should continue shopping here. Management needs to address this inconsistent application of security policies and ensure all customers are treated with...
Read moreNot as good as the Summer Hill IGA (i fell asleep in the cheese fridge) but I must say, it's awfully convenient. As an older man who is rather sensitive about his hairline (my hairline is a sensitive issue for me), the fact that none of the staff have referenced it makes me feel safe here. I'm quite sensitive about my hairline (I'm sensitive about it) and it really seems like a non issue for the younger, more progressive hair-covered cashiers. Even when I attempted to goad one of the ambiguously gendered ones they still refused to remark about my hairline, which, as a man who's sensitive to this issue (my virility is in constant question and let me assure you, there is no problem there), I was nonetheless left awstruck by their professionalism. This younger generation is going places!! And as I left, a larger man played me a song on his guitar. I will be back to purchase more 'meals...
Read moreI went to buy eggs today and there were two issues, one minor and one major. Pope’s 600g free range farm eggs are $5.50 (in comparison, the Woolworth’ s ones which are $4.50). I started rummaging through the pile of egg cartons to make sure that I was getting one that wasn’t full of cracked eggs. I finally found two and went over to the counter to pay my $11. When I got home, I discovered that one of the eggs was rotten and had the most repugnant odour. It stunk and the rest of the eggs were very similar in smell. When I opened the seemingly normal egg, a black liquid instantly poured out which was absolutely disgusting. The use by date was the 12th of October which is a month away. What the hell is this??? Make sure you don’t get eggs from here as they could contain salmonella. Not sure about other products but there is obviously a quality control issue...
