I attended Butcher's Brew Bar today, Saturday 11th May. I am a vocalist and was performing in a trio called Peter Head and the Soul Sista's. We do a mix of originals, and classic soul, blues and gospel music, with lots of harmony. We played from 3-6pm and a jazz group were starting at 8 until 11pm. Butcher's Brew is a very small bar with a capacity of about 35/40 people and serve drinks only, no food. They charge a $10 entry which goes toward payment for the musicians. It's a friendly little bar and has comfortable padded chairs and tables and a clear view of the band. Today, I saw people chatting that had only just met, and singing along with some of the classics. Everyone complimented us as they left and said they thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. It is open during the week as well and presents a wide variety of music, and has a very good sound system which is clear and not loud. I highly recommend Butcher's Brew for all these reasons. You can receive their emails or messages which tell you who is performing and a little about them. Go check it out and support live music. Remember to ask when Peter Head and the Soul Sista's are playing next......

The band is playing "Why did you do it" by Stretch (from Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels), I have a flute of sparkling rose and I'm in bliss. They don't do food yet, so if you get the munchies, just pop next door to Manmaru and get some dumplings. Winning!
ETA: Sadly and regrettably I have changed my review from 5 to 3 stars. I returned a second time with a friend at approximately 740pm on a Tuesday night not sure how long we'd be. Got a round of drinks. The jazz band started at 8 and i got another round of drinks at the bar at approx 8:10, expecting to pay cover charge then, but wasnt charged. A couple of minutes later a lady darted to me abruptly and sharply asked for cover charge. I understand there may have been a lack of communication earlier, and didn't mind being approached but the manner with which it it was done wasn't "hospitable" in the very slightest and it means I am very unlikely to ever return, nor recommend. We stayed for one more song...

I wish the interior design had been thought about more - the bar takes up way too much space compared to the size of the venue, the timber bench along the long side of the room doesnāt need to be two tier, it could be redesigned to take up way less space and create more walking room to help people get to the back end of the bar.. speaking of the back of the bar.. the back corner could be much better utilized by swapping the big table and large chairs for a wrap around timber bench and stools. The interior decor is mismatched but has so much potential with a bit of decluttering. I really, really want this place to succeed because as a local Iād love to come here on a Saturday afternoon and listen to great music with friends - perhaps with a rethink of the interiors this place can...
