We arrived at Dulwich Hill and after much deliberation as to where to take my daughter for her birthday dinner we settled upon The Hub House Diner!! Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it!! We started with the House Plank a fairly nice started - the best item was the corn. But then the night went down hill. Three out of six chose the "Chicken Special" off the board. The description was crispy Korean chicken served with Kimchi, cheese (which sounded a bit dodgy) and some salad. My daughter ordered the steak. What then unfolded was a disaster!! Steak was ok but when 3 burgers were delivered we said they must have the wrong order - none of us ordered burgers!! Nor would I. Apparently the boss had missed this vital piece of information on his board. Afer imagining a lovely spicy Korean chicken dish with a chilli spiced Kimchi we were presented with the worst burgers. My son ate the only chicken off the burger under sufference and left the rest. I however could not. Meals were reordered however by then the dinner was some eating, others waiting and was ruined. At the end only 1 disaster burger was left off the large bill even though only the chicken had been eaten. $20 for one piece of chicken!! This was the last straw. Insisting that we would not pay for it, the boss made such a scene even though the bill was over $200!! The ad says great service but I beg to differ. He wa rude, almost to the point of intimidation. So give The Hub House Diner a wide berth. Dulwich Hill and surrounds has many great food places so spare yourself and give this one a big miss!!
The Hub House Diner to respnd to you teply....
And as I said- your intimidation continues. There was no "scene" - we were civil in our approach to your staff. The only thing now is your continued demostration of your inability to accept critique without such vitrio and threatsl!! You do not intimidate me or my family.
No plates were 'licked clean'. And now you call me and my family thieves??? We paid your establishment almost $200 this is not thievery.
Your comments are a clear example of a business who cannot manage any critique or accept it with curtesy. I am entitled to my opinion. Now you threaten us with police action??? I wasn't aware they attend due to poor food and service. No need however, we have no intention of returning. As stated, there are many better eateries in that area. There was no rudeness other than your own and your reply serves to reinforce this. I'm not sure how you intend to 'warn' other businesses but this sounds like an over-inflated...

No. No you should not. Head to Goldie's which is just around the corner. Sososo good food, and their coffee is genuinely excellent. See ya Hun House Diner. It's not me. It's purely you.🤷
UPDATE 14 Feb, 2024 Everything good about this place has now gone since my last glowing review. Effective but ultimately-surly waitress, coffee was ok but lost its "die for" status, food was absolutely abysmal - like seriously: Bacon and egg roll was always god tier but today after not going for maybe a year, the roll was terrible quality, none of their special hot sauce, additional mushrooms used to mean huge field mushrooms and today was the mushroom equivalent of where's waldo. And the price for this cup of long black disappointment and roll of tears? 24 bucks. I'm not a rude bloke, and if someone gave me feedback in a polite manner, I'd be like, "ah cool, cheers for that - have a coffee on us if that meal wasn't up to snuff" or something said to at least take the feedback. Nope, got deflecfion and surliness - with the other waitress grinning in contempt, just to emphasize the point home that they give zero fcks. Cool cool cool.
Hub? We used to come often, and after today I hope you do better for anyone else reading this. We won't be back at all, but maybe you can lift your game for others. Always a good feed at Hub - whether takeaway or dine in. Maddi is the red-haired Waitress that served us, and she's polite, remembers our order after 18 months of not being there due to being out of country. A++...
Read moreHey there! Used to be a regular customer of the hub house diner in Dulwich hill. But I will not be visiting them anymore
The quality of ingredients and therefore the dishes they serve as dropped so much. I used to be addicted to certain menu items from this restaurant but now the ingredients have been replaced with cheaper versions which have ruined the dishes. The chicken Caesar for example, used to have crumbly bacon, lots of dressing, huge pieces of real chicken breast. It was delicious, my favourite Caesar in Sydney. Now the chicken is non existent and tastes rubbery and fake, the bacon is chunks that are undercooked with lots rind and fat. The dressing the runny and flavourless.
They have also increases the prices of their dishes, now I would understand why considering inflation and rising food prices, lots of cafes are doing it tough. However with hub house, the quality of food has reduced so much that it just feels like they are saving money at the expense of the customer by getting the cheapest ingredients on the market and jacking up the prices on their dishes.
The only ok thing about hub house now is the coffee and lovely male barista in the morning and their offering of morning takeaway pastries and their bacon and egg roll. Everything else is not worth your money. I will never be going back for any of food I used to. Word to the wise, if must go to hub house diner stick to going before 10:30am, that’s the only time...
