I got a pop-up in Facebook advertising this centre's "Retro Gaming Arcade." There is (or was) absolutely NO SUGGESTION WHATSOEVER on ANY of their electronic advertising material that any age limit applied. Indeed, a quick Google will readily support the fact that "Retro Games" are played mostly by ADULTS, for the nostalgia of reliving something we did when we were younger.
When I arrived yesterday (my first visit to this centre in literally YEARS - see below), I found perhaps three recreations of the table-top arcade machines that were ubiquitous in the 1980s, plus several other machines of a much more modern nature. There were numerous children present, perhaps primary school age, all of whom were clearly far more interested in the modern games and were mostly (apart from the odd poke or prod at the buttons) leaving the "retro" ones alone. I spent perhaps twenty minutes enjoying the nostalgia of playing various games from my teenage years before my (now much older) hands became sore and I chose to call it quits for the day. NONE of the staff in attendance (all young, female and Caucasian) expressed ANY OBJECTION WHATSOEVER.
Within five minutes of returning today, I was approached by an older male of Indian subcontinental appearance/accent, who categorically insisted that ALL of the games machines, including the retro ones, were STRICTLY FOR CHILDREN (and ACCOMPANYING adults) ONLY. My best attempts to explain the above fell on completely deaf ears; evidently beyond the limits of his English fluency. Do NOT BELIEVE his likely lie that I was behaving inappropriately in front of the children; before he approached me I was sitting there minding my OWN BUSINESS and IN NO WAY interfering with anyone else, adult or child alike. Only AFTER he pigheadedly refused to listen to me, I confess, did my annoyance tempt me to utter ONE (very mild) cussword in a deliberately LOW VOICE that ONLY HE COULD HEAR. For this much, I willingly apologise profusely, whether or not the management sees fit to offer me anything similar for the misinformation that led to my wasted drive and time in the first place!! I would at least ask the management (or their marketing consultants) to please ensure I receive NO further advertising material of ANY kind, through ANY printed or electronic carriage service. How they go about this is of course, entirely their own problem.
I have been avoiding this centre like the PLAGUE ever since they evicted Gloria Jeans, allegedly bankrupting the franchise owner in the process. It was EASILY my favourite local GJs outlet (and a HUGELY popular one) for FAR too many reasons to list here. Now I will be avoiding it (the centre) even more. And I trust we have all heard the very old business adage that "a happy customer tells a friend....." (Google it if you...
Read moreThis review relates entirely to the undercover parking area of this Centre, where it's obvious that commuters are utilising that area to the detriment of regular shoppers such as ourselves. We appreciate that parking restrictions such as locking-off the area prior to around 9am when the shops commence trading, time limited parking (that's a bit of a bluff actually), or fitting boom gates with number plate recognition for limited free parking such as has been done at Castle Towers and more recently at Winston Hills Mall is costly for Centre Management, but then so is the resultant loss of trade to the retailers in their Centre! We tried on several occasions to advise Centre Management about our intention to post this Review, but the door to their Office was locked and knocks unanswered on...
Read moreNot a bad shopping Centre but I’m giving it 1 star because for over ten years the mobile reception gets zero bars across half the centre - and the Management have done nothing to address it.
They could invest in a repeater, or install free wifi like almost every other Centre has these days. The Bakers Delight staff tell me it causes huge problems for them because customers can’t scan their loyalty cards via the app during checkout. Coles staff regularly have customers pausing their sale at the checkout so they can leave the Centre to get reception while they transfer money between accounts.
No doubt in another ten years it’ll be...
