It is very unfortunate but the most I can give this joint is 3. Was even considering a 2 to be honest. We were searching up Japanese food joints in the area and MakiMoto came up on top, however big part of me wondered if the reviews were even real after the visit. Yes the environment is nice and easy parking, but the food, at least for our visit were sub-par. The 2 ramens were acceptable, but the boiled egg was over done and flavourless. The spicy noodle I suspect was just normal tonkotsu north but added some spice to it. At least it tasted thst way. The tonkotsu ramen was fine but the skewer was over cooked and flavourless. The sushi looked great on photo and when it came but it literally falls apart as you pick it up. The rice was dry and lacked the stickiness of fresh rice, and it was not held together properly. Per photo it literally falls apart. Even the rolls fell apart which was amazing. The fish at least felt fresh. The plain udon for kids was fine but the soup based was a clear water mix, which you can taste the broth was not properly made. You can almost taste the water, so maybe it was too watered down. The udon was cooked through though. The only dish I really enjoyed was the agedashi tofu, it was nicely done and the dashi sauce was well balanced in terms of flavour. That was 1 good piece of tofu I will love to have again! All in all, unfortunately it was a very disappoint experience especially considering it’s still almost $70 for the whole meal, wasn’t cheap so I expected the quality to match. Hope this was a one off unfortunate experience.

Sushi was delicious, atmosphere was nice, but the service was a little disappointingly slow. Arrived and was seated right away. Looked through the small menu and was ready to order, but it took about 10 mins to get someone to take our order. There was 2 front of house and 4 back of house in the kitchen. Several tables were also waiting and ready to place their orders. I ordered their signature Mala Spicy Beef Ramen, Tantan Men, Aburi Salmon Roll, Grilled Salmon Nigiri and a hot green tea. The Aburi Salmon Roll arrived first, followed by the grilled salmon nigiri. The flavours in the rolls were amazing and nicely balanced. Next came both ramen dishes. We started to wonder if our drinks would ever arrive or if they were waiting for the tree to grow our tea leaves. I asked the waitress to check in our green tea order but she simply pointed out that the other person behind the bar was still busy making drinks. My dinner companion started with the Tantan Man only to find that it was very Spicy. She double checked the menu and no where did it say that it was Spicy. She then checked with the waitress but it didn't seem like the waitress knew what it was meant to taste like, nor was she interested in offering us something else that was not Spicy instead. I then tried the Mala Spicy Ramen. The broth was thin and tangy but I didn't think it was Spicy enough. The Tantan Man was actually more Spicy towards the bottom of the bowl. Overall the food was OK, but the service has room for improvement.

Makimoto is a Japanese Gourmet restaurant that offers premium food and drinks for Japanese Cuisine lovers. They offer a wide variety of hot and cold entrees such as edamame, tempura and salads. They also offer extensive sashimi options and sushi rolls all greatly priced for the amount you are served. I ordered their special, ‘Ramen alla Truffle prawn’, and i was met with a great balance of truffle and sweet onion complementing the prawn flavour. Highly recommend! For sushi, I had their dynamite roll, containing ebi tempura, aburi salmon with avocado. It was delightfully spicy, with an array of different textures and flavours in medley with one another. Their prawn tempura was light and airy, served with a sweet dipping sauce to cut through the fattiness of the prawn. Overall this restaurant provides great value, with delicious dishes and nice atmosphere.

What a delightful surprise! I’ve been looking for quality Japanese in the hills for some time and I am pleased to say that I think we finally found one! Beats going to the city fir decent Japanese. Virtually all of our dishes were great! Tempura, gyoza, agedashi tofu and other side dishes were perfect. The only thing was the ramen, they could have used a little bit more seasoning and in future I’d probably request they remove the crab stick, but other than that it was a pretty good!

The biggest tick however goes to their thoughtfulness when it came to feeding my toddler (18mths). They had plastic bowl with plastic utensils and cup. The meals were mini Japanese meals (teriyaki chicken with rice, mini udon etc) which were a great portion. When his meal came out the waitress had the foresight to not place the food in front of him but next to me 👍👍 She also discreetly handed me his kids sized apple juice so he wouldn’t see it (comes with the meal), which would be great for parents who struggle with kids who go mad for juice. Fortunately my son still has no idea about it yet, but definitely a bonus for when he does discover juice. Definitely going back there again, thanks for the...
