Update on 28 Aug 2021: bringing down to 3 stars The register counters are really slow and they are short staffed always. Long wait lines. Incompetent dead slow staff at registers always. Sometimes they close register and don't allow people in 5-10 minutes before closing time. They are rude to those trying to get in the last few minutes or to those offering cash instead of card payments in last moments. I always use card, but felt bad for other customers.
Closing time means that is the last time you allow someone in. Every store has a buffer 5-10 minutes after closing time to let customers out. And none closes the register before hand whatsoever! You are running a business, may be show some professionalism š
And its over priced or highly priced for most items with rates fluctuating every now and then and only on higher side. You can get items cheaper in Coles or Woolworths Indian aisle on regular prices than from Udaya. I switched to other local stores now. Rarely do I visit them now for very few items.
Reviewed 9 months ago: gave 5 stars This is my go to place for any Indian item I need, for more than an year. You can find almost anything. You name it, they have it. Even during the pandemic they managed to keep up the necessary items in stocks, although I couldn't get my preferred brands, yet it was understood and I bought the available ones. They also have many kitchen accessories, and fresh fruits and vegetables available. This is one place I can go for curry leaves, green chilles, and fenugreek leaves (methi ki sabzi). Its not always available. But yes, available most of the times. They have clothes and indian Jewellery as well. Seen it many times, never bought anything though as I didn't need any till now. The sweet shop is one of the best Indian one I have ever had in Sydney. I have tried Indian sweets almost from every outlet in Liverpool and most of Sydney. Everywhere I was disappointed for wasting my money except here. People here do know how to make sweets tasty like the original Indian sweets. Also a few Fiji sweets are available. They may not be as great as authentic Indian sweets but they are close to be called a reasonable good place for sweets. Atleast you will not feel...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUntil today, I had been having a good shopping experience at Nilgiris. However, my visit on 15/08/2025 was extremely disappointing.
My wife had initially purchased sweets on a per-piece basis but realised it was more expensive. She requested to purchase them instead by weight and asked the cashier to adjust the previously taken sweets. The cashier agreed, indicating she understood, and asked us to first purchase the weighted sweets and told that she would put refund on the item since its already purchased.
However, after completing the second purchase, she refused to take back the earlier sweets, citing the policy that food items cannot be returned. While I understand such a policy, we had not even stepped away from the counter before making the adjustment request. This inconsistency, combined with her initial confirmation and later refusal, was unprofessional and frustrating.
I would like to understand on what basis Nilgiris hires cash counter staff who fail to comprehend basic customer instructions in English and then cause such inconvenience. Such experiences tarnish the otherwise good reputation Nilgiris has built with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis Indian supermarket is an absolute gem! It's a fantastic place to find all the essentials for authentic Indian cooking. The store is clean, well-organized, and the aisles are easy to navigate. The selection is truly impressive. They have a huge variety of spices, lentils, rice, and flours that are often hard to find elsewhere. I was particularly impressed with their fresh produce section, which had a great selection of vegetables like okra, bitter melon, and various gourds. The frozen foods section is also well-stocked with a wide range of parathas, curries, and snacks. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They're always willing to offer suggestions or help you find a specific ingredient. The prices are also very reasonable, making it a great place to do your weekly grocery shopping. Overall, I highly recommend this Indian supermarket. Whether you're a seasoned cook or just starting to explore Indian cuisine, you'll find everything you need here. It's more than just a grocery store; it's a culinary...
