Lighthorse park must have been a very nice area next to the river once upon a time but sadly the river looks to be quite dirty now. Also a LOT of flats have come up around it. The council does its job in regularly mowing the grass, etc. The good thing is that a lot of wild growth in the margins is left alone and so there is a natural beauty while at the same time the park is maintained so as to be convenient and attractive. I hope no Council in the world will ever use herbicides or other chemicals. There is one definite negative and it is the area around the entrance from the top road, including the two flights of steps leading down to the park. This area is filthy with rubbish and shopping trollies. Of course, the public is to blame but Council should regularly clean this place up. One of the positives is that there are many trees and native shrubs planted along the entrance pathway and all over the park.
UPDATE: I was so happy to see that the trollies have gone from under the stairs - the place looks so clean now - way to go, council (or whoever did it)!!
It's my view that nothing should be done to this park except (a) continue to keep it clean (b) forbid dogs from dirtying the grass and pathways.
This was the only park in the whole of Sydney that i was lucky enough to find Bell- miner birds in, on only one or two specific trees, for the very first time in my 20 years in Sydney! But then I read in the media that they were going to chase off the birds (by destroying the lantana bushes in which they lived) because they are the cause of gum-tree die-back. Well, should the birds not have somewhere to eat and hang out? Something has upset the balance - otherwise, why would a bird contribute to killing a tree? Trees are their home. Rather than the Bell-miner alone (and habitat shrinkage due to human activities), I think a native bird called the noisy miner, is equally, or more, to blame. Because the Noisy miner is the number one thug of the bird world, in my observation, chasing away birds big and small with its gang-attacks. This might be a reason why the trees are being devoured by sap-sucking psyllids that might otherwise have been kept under control by other small birds that eat them, if the Noisy miners hadn't chased them away.
Let some lantana and some Bell-miners remain, is all I'm saying. Cull the Noisy miners instead. They are...
Read moreA park that is in desperate need of a facelift. Without any recent work done of the playground or park facilities for over 10 years, this park is often occupied by junkies under the New Bridge Road along the shore line of the George’s river. Great locality, but the Local Council needs to strongly consider taking action to put funds towards cleaning up this park that has...
Read moreYet another disappointing Liverpool council park. Plenty of space for dogs and kids including a playground and toilet block but no outdoor gym or bbq facilities. Picnic tables are located in the only shaded space here. Bit of rubbish and popular for shopping trolleys. Don't believe the "Meat in a Park" website there are no bbqs here - you need to bring your own....
