Dan Murphy's represent all that is wrong with large monopolies in an industry. While they have a lot of stock it's mostly common items. The staff are generally not particularly knowledgable the ones who have talent are hamstrung by internal bureaucracy, poor systems, procedures and sloppy customer focussed oversight.
My last interaction with them was via their online store, I placed an order which arrived very slowly by modern standard ~ 3 weeks. When I opened the carton, I realised they had sent the me the wrong wine. I rang to rectify the issue. I was told a courier would contact me and take away the incorrect order and I would receive the correct order. 5 days later nothing had happened.
I called again. This time I was told they had no stock of the requested product and apparently somebody had tried to call me to tell me. My phone log showed no missed calls in the past month, so I was skeptical. This time I was told a courier would contact me to take away my wrong order and I would be issued a refund.
7 days later I have had to call again. I've received the same story. Courier would call me and I would receive a refund. Hopefully this time it will happen.
All the customer support staff seem very friendly and seem to do everything they're trained to do, but somewhere internally things are falling over.
It's been a stark contrast to dealing direct with a Winery in South Australia. It makes me more determined to support...
Read moreMy experience at Dan Murphy’s Hyde Park on 22/03/2024 was so disappointing and warrants this one-star review. At around 4 PM, my friends and I were met with a cold interaction from a security personnel who demanded our IDs without a hint of courtesy. While I have no qualms about adhering to legal requirements, especially concerning alcohol purchases, the lack of basic civility was startling.
The situation escalated when another friend, who had inadvertently forgotten their ID, was barred entry. Again, understandable, but the subsequent actions taken by the security staff were unacceptable. This individual went out of their way to locate us inside the store, only to rudely escort us out because of one person’s oversight. This overzealous enforcement, coupled with an appalling attitude, was beyond professional.
I am fully aware of the legalities involved in selling alcohol and respect the need for strict adherence. However, there’s a stark difference between enforcing policy and demeaning customers. I always buy the drinks from the Dan Murphy’s and I always feel satisfied. I would say that the staff’s behavior was not only unwarranted but also tainted my perception of Dan Murphy’s as a whole. So bad...
Read moreGenerally I have had no dramas getting what I've wanted. However on this occasion, I enquired about the one off ceramic bottle of Kraken spiced rum they have been promoting lately. The website said it was available, however I could not see it on the shelf. I knew it was a limited run so i figured it may have sold out. After taking a couple of minutes to locate a free staff member (by free i mean standing around chatting to security) I asked if they had any more of the Kraken in stock or info on when more might be available. Staff member had no idea what i was talking about, so i showed them a pic on my phone. They said they would go and ask someone else to get more details. I was left standing in the isle for about 5 minutes, I duck out to see who is around, and here is my friendly staff member staking shelves. I just walked out. Figured that must have been too much of an ask. So I agree with others, customer service could be improved...
