2023 July: 3/5 - What is with manager grouchy? No one approached us when we came in. We got their attention even though 2 workers walked by us at the ORDER HERE area with no one saying hello or ANYTHING. Finally some lady who had what looked like a pin with the word that seemed to say MANAGER dealt with us. Not pleasant in her service to us, nothing hostile but not smiling, not pleasant, not happy...we were pleasant, we were nice, we did not have on anything and did not say anything to offend so why the grouchy service? The kids took a bit but well it is an ice cream place so you figure that will happen...the ice cream was great (4/5), the service (2.5/5)...not a pleasant manager...
2022 April: 5/5 -drive thru staff were super friendly and pleasant. Ice cream as always was delicious. Best strawberry ice cream on the planet!
Overall rating 2/5 June 2020 (last week) update: Called them to order a cake during business hours (after 10am on a weekday, they open at 9am). They did not answer (I let it ring a LOT of times for a long while before I gave up) so just showed up at the store as was in the area shopping. Store is closed still due to covid19, totally understandable, tried to order one at the drive thru, they would not take my order. No cakes in stock, would have to wait 48 hours to get a cake if I ordered one. Tried to order one at the drive thru, was told I could not but I could call them, told them about my experience of trying to reach them earlier and the phone rang for a long while with no one picking up, still told me I could park and call them, that I could not order one at the drive thru...drove to a competitor, bought a cake... :) I get the lady at the drive thru was trying to help and I am not complaining...just thought I would note that the process of purchasing a cake I went through was so complicated, all I wanted was a cake so found their 'solution' amusing, found my solution pragmatic. :)
Overall rating: 4/5 July 2019 update: Milkshakes are really nice, give those a 4.5/5.
Really good ice cream but I have had better. Not sure they are worth the hype although for Barrie, probably the best ice cream place in the city, not sure, ice cream is not my thing really, I more get it when am getting some for the kids and their ice cream is a good quality product just not sure it is worth the drive to Barrie...
Read moreI have been visitng the Kawartha Diary store in Minden for almost 30 years and have such a pleasant experience everytime. I have had to deal with the Barrie store a few times lately since I live in the area and each time I am extremely disappointed. The first time I visisted the store was Father's day and they weren't very friendly. There was no signage on the fridge door for the cakes so I picked up one that had no sign but was decorated and got yelled at for not asking for help. Eventually they showed me which ones were for customers and not special orders. I went back in August to pick up a cake for my Dad's birthday. There were no other customers in the store, I was not greeted by anyone. I walked over to the fridge and could not tell if the cakes were special orders or not so I went over to the counter to ask for help. There were two girls working, one was assisting the drive thru and the other one was right in front of me filling up something. I stood there for a few minutes and was not acknowledged, finally I spoke up and asked for help and was given very short and rude toned answers, I left becasue there were no cakes avaiable. The third and last time I had an interaction with the store I called to ask for availability on a seasonal flavour before driving to the store. The phone was answered by a rude "Hello..." and then I recieved very short answers after that. I will not be giving my business to this location anymore until something is done about the customer service here. The employees are beyond rude with every interaction I have had with them and I think they need propper customer service training. I worked in a Marble Slab for all of University and would NEVER interact with my customers the way I am treated at this store. It doesn't take much to smile and give a nice hello. My final piece of advice is label the cake fridge correctly please, no one knows if they are allowed to take any cakes or if they are only by special order or not. Read moreThey Hate Wholesale customers. Each time I have come to pick up icecream this year, it’s been an issue. Was passing thru picked up only 2 tubs. No line up and off season. And was told on repeat. “You know the rules….what are the rules??? That’s right talked to like a child. Because I didn’t call an hr ahead of pick up time. This time was told while I was in drive thru. I would have to come in store to pay. Again no customers in store or in lineup. So if I’m picking up $500 worth of icecream. I have to go in store and lineup for a half hr with the same customers picking up 1 icecream scoop in the future? I thought this is why I had to call minimum 1 hr before. Oy ya. They also demanded my Kawartha signs back, because I had Shaw’s icecream in my display freezers. (That I paid for). How petty can a Company be? So today is it. After almost 10 years of being a loyal customer. And spending 100’s of thousands in icecream. I’m done. I will now only buy Shaw’s Ice cream. Shaws is excited to have new customers. And a nice family run business like Kawartha used to be. Thank you to the manager Andrea for her rude service on multiple occasions.
