The worst leasing agents / building management I've dealt with. I was told to "pre-apply" online. I did, and I waited 4 weeks without hearing back. I emailed and asked if they could confirm they received my application, they responded by saying I needed to apply online and only pre-approved applicants could view suites. I thanked them, reminded them I had already applied and asked when I might expect an update. They told me I just needed to wait. Ok. I waited a week. It was now the first of the month so I asked about availability, and the status of my application. I was sent a list of available suites and their price - I then asked AGAIN about my application, and they said I still needed to wait for it to be reviewed, but in the interim was there any particular suite I was looking for. I thanked them and responded with the layout I was hoping would come available, and once I was pre-approved, would like to view. THEY THEN SENT ME THE SAME LIST OF CURRENT AVAILABILITY AND SAID I MUST BE PRE-APPROVED. It was as if they weren't reading my emails with anything more than a cursory glance. I tried calling them the next business day, and every business day thereafter...no answer. I ended up calling the parent company (developer's) customer support line where I was finally able to speak with someone, who, while helpful, wasn't in a position to do more than forward my inquiries back to the same people who had been so useless. I kept calling, and emailing. Finally, on a Saturday morning I was told my application was rejected - no rationale.
It took them 7 weeks to review a simple application, during which they were mostly unreachable / completely unhelpful with my questions. Finally a rejection with no explanation. I have rented from a few buildings like this, never been rejected in the past, and always had great experiences with the management company... something is deeply wrong and mismanaged with these Shape Rental Properties. Stay away, and spend ridiculously high rent amounts somewhere where they...
Read moreIt's a pretty looking building, and the views are nice, but it isn't a nice place to live. The rent is not worth the price, especially given the area; despite being above a mall, you will probably not be doing most of your shopping at Brentwood, so the excellent transit options are nice - but then it becomes a question of "why not just move to a better area in the first place?" In summer, it doesn't matter what direction your unit is facing, because the airflow is very bad. The bedroom windows open downward, are about 3 feet wide, and open around 5 inches - if it's 25 degrees, your bedroom will be 28. Your best option for airflow is your balcony door, but if the wind isn't blowing towards your door, you're out of luck. There is also no air conditioning in the units (though, notably, there is in the lobby - thank goodness). There is constant maintenance in the building. For one period of time, there was water maintenance scheduled about 3 times in one month. Water pressure is also subpar. The fridges in the units are very small, and are built in, so switching it out is not an option. The oven is also very small - so small that much of my cookware does not fit in it. You will not be able to cook more than 1 thing in the oven. The moveout process is also a frustratingly bad process. You have to book a pre-moveout inspection as well as a post-moveout inspection, and you also MUST hire cleaners; you do not have an option of cleaning your unit yourself, and you must provide a receipt. Naturally, the inspections must be booked with the building on their schedule, so if you're employed or otherwise busy (such as on account of moving out), you'll have another bunch of nonsense to deal with. Much of this could be overlooked - the subpar shopping options, the constant maintenance, the terrible heat in summer and lack of air conditioning - if the rent wasn't also very high. If you can afford to rent at this building: rent...
