Read more07/23 The woman RUPTA (Ruupta) the gate controller FROM WEST JET IS HORRIBLE & OUTRIGHT RUDE WITHOUT REASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEGATIVE or zero stars is my honest review. (I would not be surprised if she gave me a fake name because of her disrespect and degrading towards us) She has medium length dark curly hair and gave my family the worst tone/attitude at the boarding gate, she was at D71 for domestic in YYC today.
We were boarding a domestic connection and she told us that we have to pay for duty free bags as it would count as a carry on or personal item. However, there were multiple passengers in front of us boarding with duty/tax-free bags that were much larger and having more than 1 per person.
Even her co-workers did not want to charge for it seeing it was duty free or simply first asked if we could put it into our carry on luggage. Rupta became very arrogant and threatened us not being able to board the plane, told us to wait to the side for her manager and security when I asked for her name/supervisor. Once her manager came over, Nic (she was wonderful and great!) gave us no trouble and confirmed that tax-free bags do not count as personal/carry on items.
I genuinely have a horrible perception of WestJet now because of her, she knows how to WRECK PEOPLE’S DAY IN A MATTER OF SECONDS & leave a bad taste permanently.
Her disrespectful tone and aggressive attitude was completely uncalled for, she was degrading the entire conversation and even when we agreed to pay to check our carry on’s she proceeded to make us wait 10-15 mins for no reason for her manager/security. Even when I offered to stay behind and let my family board, she said no without any option and would not be accommodating in the slightest.
After over 12 hours of travelling, it is because of people like her that you will completely change your opinion of airlines. If I have to deal with her again I would rather book another airline carrier!
I do not think she represents WestJet in a positive light at all and WestJet should review her customer interactions and how she handles passengers!!! I genuinely hope she is not the gate manager - nor should she be in charge of anything.
(Nic the WestJet manager was wonderful and a pleasure to deal with, she heard the entire situation and was professional the entire time. There was another fellow also at the gate who was very lovely to deal with, I didn’t get his name but he has short hair and came over to ask if we could rearrange some of the carry ons. He said that duty-free does not count as an item, and you could tell he was trying to help the situation but the rude woman kept ordering him...
