Was very excited to go to Haunted Hollows after reading all the positive reviews online, but my experience was unfortunately mixed. I'm a big Halloween buff and have been to Screemers, Halloween Haunt (Wonderland), Haunt Manor in Niagara, etc. Drove an hour and a half to Haunted Hollows on Sunday, October 30th, right at opening and was prepared and dressed accordingly to wait in line for a while, waited about 45 minutes which wasn't bad.
The main thing I was excited about from the reviews was people saying the longer wait meant great time between groups, combined with a long walk, meaning lots of good quality scares and a great experience. I didn't mind the wait as I was looking forward to the good scares, but unfortunately did not have as positive of an experience. The props, sets, and actors were absolutely amazing - the quality of the actual sets was really well done with so many different different areas and themes. Additionally, the decorations and animatronics in the actual queue line were great and provided lots to watch and look at while waiting.
My issue was that not enough time was left between groups - I got a couple good scares near the beginning of the walk when I was alone, but even though I walked very slow and really took my time to enjoy the scenery, I still caught up to the group ahead of me which meant that I saw every scare coming despite trying really hard to hang back so actors could reset. And the group that I had caught up to, THEY had caught up to the group ahead of THEM and were trying to hang back as well for the same reasons so they would get some scares. So by the time it got to me, the group ahead of me had already gotten any residual scares from the first group and I would get nothing. And then not one, but TWO groups behind me caught up to me, so a total of five groups (two in front of me, myself, and two groups behind me) were basically progressing through the same areas back to back to back. The fact that five completely separate groups had managed to catch up to each other was indicative of not enough time being left between, as opposed to one or two groups walking too slow or too quickly which does happen every once in a while at haunts and is expected. It was so disappointing, and unexpected since there were so many positive reviews specifically about the park leaving great amounts of time between groups, and I love that it's family run as opposed to a big corporation.
I don't think I will come back to this park for that reason - it was too far to drive to not get any scares, despite the overall good quality of the sets and long length of the walk. However, one highlight for me that I should mention was definitely the final attraction with the walk through the tunnel of spinning lights - it really messes with your head, and felt like something out of a horror movie where a creature is looming over you while the world is spinning and you truly can't catch your balance to escape. Was glad for the handrails, as I was incredibly dizzy. Very memorable, very well done, definitely my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām from Michigan and have been to a few haunts. Id say I have a general feel of what makes a good haunt and I was excited about this place as I was visiting family in Canada and we did our research to find a place that had good reviews and this was one of the few places in the Toronto/ontario area that people seemed to like as Ontario seems to be lacking in good haunts. I will start off by saying that my experience was heavily affected by the spacing of the groups. I came with 9 other people and we split up into three groups. One of the groups decided to go ahead of us and we ended up catching up with them because the people in front of them were walking too slow. This made us miss all the scares because we could see everything. The group behind us ended up catching up with us because we kept having to wait for the group ahead of us to go - and then the group behind them caught up too. It was honestly very disappointing considering how much you pay for the tickets. Iāve been to other trail haunts before and they space it out very well so Iāve never experienced something like this before. Even if thereās an instance where youāre close to the group ahead of you because theyāre walking too slow, the workers make you wait until the other group gets farther away. This place could really benefit from figuring out how to properly space out each group so even if one group walks slow, it wonāt affect the experience of other customers because theyāve taken it into account. I think it was because it was towards the end of the night and we were one of the last groups to go so they just put all the groups in as soon as they could. I will say that this one was not very scary. Donāt get me wrong there were some parts that got me and you can tell the workers and actors put a lot of love into everything! I think the inconsistent spacing really affected the experience and was ultimately why this was not one that I would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStraight goods? This place is AMAZING. Iāve been to lots of Halloween set-ups/haunts, all over the place. Been to the usual, corporate offerings. Theyāre decent but, this place has something Iāve never found at any other. As soon as we arrived and got in the expected line-up, the entertainment started. There were all kinds of characters floating around, keeping us intrigued and getting us ready for a proper fright.
Once we got inside, I wasnāt quite prepared. I couldnāt believe the layout. It was like walking into the worst nightmare Iāve ever had. Haha! The kids had far more bravery than I but, I followed them in because - thatās what a āgrown-upā does. I couldnāt believe the level of production I witnessed, in the Halloween tradition. The curation of scary items, the set-up and execution of this place are incredible. ā¦and THIS is a local, family-run business!!! Puts the rest to shame, really.
The actors are all super-hidden, so - when they pop out - look out! I almost lost it a couple of times, when they came from what seemed like inside the walls. The kids freaked out but - I think I was more scared than they were.
If youāre into a real scare, if thatās what youāre up for⦠THIS IS THE PLACE. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The wait time seems like nothing, with all the pre-entry stuff they have to look at. I w been to lots of āhaunted housesā and things but Iāve NEVER seen a straight-run āscare-parkā like this. Itās incredible. We even got to take some pictures with some characters. That was a big hit, for everyone!!!!
I always love to support local, independent businesses. This one blows the big-guys out of the pumpkin patch!!!! Thanks, Haunted Hollows! You guys freaked the cr$p out of everyone I was with. Iām heading back with another crew in the next...
