I want to like this place, but after my last purchase I'm disappointed. I was sold a Gamecube with two controllers (one name-brand, one not) and Monkey Ball 2. The Gamecube has a large issue with its closing mechanism (you have to slam the lid in order for it to stay shut) and the "open" button (again, have to push very hard). Clearly somebody attempted to fix it with some WD-40 and failed pretty miserably. Also, one of the controllers was broken the moment we plugged it in (it continually vibrated and wouldn't respond to button inputs), but was somehow working on the display console they tested it out on? Tried both P1 and P2 controller inputs, so I dunno. Because we bought it very near closing, and this was just something my sister and I did on a whim to relive some nostalgia, we didn't get around to returning it. It's been a long time since then, as gaming is not anywhere near a priority for either of us (we basically forgot about it), so it's obviously not returnable at this point. I should also note that none of these defects were disclosed at the time of purchase, nor do I think it was accurately reflected in the price of the console. Admittedly it is my fault for not doing a fuller inspection or returning it sooner, but as I said, retro gaming is not a full-time hobby for me, so I'm not acutely aware of what to look for or ask during purchase. Frankly, I feel jipped. The one star is for otherwise very helpful and kind staff, overall nice...
Read moreI walked in with my friend, the teller/storefront worker noticed us but said nothing, which is fine. I don't expect a greeting when walking into every store I visit.
Friend and I go to the first case we see and spot some games we were interested in. My friend took a video to send to his brother on snapchat showing the games off, and before his video is even finished the teller cut in calling us rude and telling us to ask permission to take pictures or videos.
No sign or anything. Completely killed our good mood entering a store with such an excellent lineup of games. Even worse was when we discovered this worker was actually the store owner (there was a newspaper clipping saying as such with his picture on it).
Hope you don't want to take a picture of any games you're interested in or just to show your friends how cool this store is without having to bow down and ask permission for advertising his store! No tact, no balls (he was wincing and grimacing as he spoke to us the entire time), and very...
Read moreDisappointed by the Worst Customer Service I’ve Ever Experienced
I don’t typically leave negative reviews, but my experience today was too upsetting not to share.
After waiting outside due to a “Be Right Back” sign (which seems to be common). I was finally let in—only to be met with an unwelcoming and dismissive attitude. I greeted the staff member politely, but received no smile, no acknowledgment—just a cold, indifferent presence.
When I asked if he could quickly test a game for me, he snapped, “We don’t do that,” with zero courtesy. I had brought in a game and was hoping to discuss a potential sale. Unfortunately, the hostility and lack of basic customer service made that impossible.
I came in with genuine interest and left completely deflated. I won’t be returning—and I can’t imagine how a business benefits from someone who turns away customers with that kind of energy.
There are many great retro game stores in Hamilton. I suggest you bring your business elsewhere instead of this...
