I have mixed feelings about this review, as Daniel sounds knowledgeable and seemed genuinely apologetic for the interaction; however the experience I've had with Westdale Jewellers caused sleepless nights and much more stress than I ever anticipated from such a longstanding local business.
To be succinct: 3 rings were dropped off: 2 to rhodium plate and 1 to change the setting from shared prong to 4 prong into a design Daniel had in the shop. Deadlines were not met and work was not started after 4x the amount of time had passed. My husband visited and called multiple times but each time Daniel had no knowledge of the interaction. It wasn't until he was calling almost daily that Daniel remembered some details. It was impossible to reach the shop by phone or email in a timely manner, we had to visit in person several times. Daniel mentioned several technological challenges and short/no staff as the reason. Multiple verbal conversations and written notes did not help meet our deadline. The last appointment where my husband had to repeatedly bang on the door to awaken Daniel was mislabeled in his shop calendar. Store hours between the Google Business Listing, website and posted on the door all differ which was frustrating when trying to contact anyone. My engagement ring was lost twice by the shop. Once during the initial staging process and again before final pickup. It wasn't until my husband demanded we scour the store for HOURS that it was found 5 days later in another customer's claim bag.
In the end there was no work done on my rings in the 8 weeks (promised as 2-3) and my husband had to take many hours off work to visit, revisit and then inspect items in the store to find my ring.
I would strongly encourage potential customers read the recent reviews and the concerns...
Read moreI have lost my patience with Westdale Jewelers. I dropped three watches for various repairs on August 2nd. Daniel told me he would call me with a quote before starting the work. That didn't happen. He sent all three watches to someone in Toronto to do the work, after telling me he may send only one of the watches to someone else if he could not regulate it to spec. It is now September 20th and no progress has been made. I have left several emails and phone messages with his answering machine as well as a lady who works there. He has not returned a message to date. He did pick up the phone on September 11th, which is when he told me that the watches are with someone else in Toronto. I didn't need a middleman, which seems that is all he is. When I spoke to him on the 11th I made it clear I just want the watches back and that I will take them elsewhere to be serviced. He said he goes to Toronto every Monday and that he would have them for my this Tuesday, but of course he didn't call me back and now his answering machine is full which I can't help but to suspect is intentional. Westdale Jewelers cannot should not be considered for watch repairs. I will be demanding full replacement value of my three missing watches. Every step of this experience has been completely unacceptable. Sincerely, a very disappointed customer. Edit. I picked up 2 of the 3 watches today. No work was completed, though Daniel...
Read moreSave your valuable items and avoid this place: I visited Westdale Jewellers to replace my watch battery. The owner (Daniel) used a knife to try to open the back cover. He couldn't open it and got the shiny original cover badly scratched in over 8 places. When I was shocked for what he just did, he simply said he cannot go back in time. After a long debate in which he tried to devalue my watch, his solution was to keep the watch for a week so that he would take it to another guy to get it open and get the battery replaced, and he would then polish the cover for free. It's worth noting that if he polishes the cover, the engravings will become almost invisible. After a week, I came back to pick it up. It was only slightly polished (all scratches were still there), and cover had been opened and closed, but the battery was not changed! I asked for a new cover or a refund, and he had no clue who to contact for the spare parts. I ended up getting a $50 refund. I eventually got the battery replaced in Toronto at a professional place with special tools for watches, for $5 (half of what he charges for this). He may be a guy with good intentions, but I definitely would not recommend him for his unprofessionalism, bad technical skills and...
