I see that this place has a 4.6 cumulative review; and I’m happy that so many people have had positive experiences. Just now, however, I certainly DID NOT. (I never go out of my way to leave “negative” reviews of businesses, but in this case, I feel like I have to.

Went in, asking for advice about what to do, to go about getting copies of “do not duplicate” security keys made. Immediately she started shaking her head, saying “nope…”, and acting if I was somehow annoying her for even asking.

She said something about “signing authority” (but would not explain further)… I asked if I should contact the lock manufacturer; but again, she stood there shaking her head and acting like I was being the biggest inconvenience ever to her. (I was in the store for MAYbe a total of 20 seconds?)

Extremely disappointing… Was hoping for something better from a small, local business. Legitimately 0/10 on customer service. There was a man in there helping another customer; but if you go in and see a woman with black hair, prepare to be treated in a very rude and terse manner. Hopefully others have had better...

After the cylinder came out of my front door lock and I was stuck and locked outside with it attached to my key I was at my wits end! A few calls to other locksmiths in Hamilton proved fruitless, no one available to help but one competitor company suggested I call Ottawa Key Shop. Sure enough, the friendly voice answered, sure no one immediately available but can come a little later, best offer I had and secured a visit. Nathan called me when he was 10 mins away, allowed me time to get to my house and upon arrival set about the task of jimmying what was left of the lockset to open the front door, and he was done in short order. Saved my bacon :) and extremely pleased with friendliness, professionalism and politeness of everyone I engaged with. Had a cumbersome automotive lock from a classic car that I was missing keys for. The staff at Ottawa Key Shop quickly identified the required blank and key code when I supplied them the lock cylinder, they had everything in stock and even freed up the matching door handle lock I brought in. It was quick, painless and cheaper than the competition. I also got a number of residential and padlock keys done, which seemed to be done in seconds, for half the price of ones that never work well from Home Depot!
