Dave & Mel's Pizzeria — Local services in North Vancouver

First off i am from a very pizza-oriented family. We have been recommended Dave and Mels a few months ago in North Vancouver. I'm close to Commercial Dr so we have a couple of pizza places but nothing I've found a staple yet, although a couple of gooders.

But that's out the window these days after we got recommended this hidden little gem. My family routinely makes the commute over the Ironworkers bridge now to grab a few slices or a pie or two to go. The only issue is we wish we lived closer haha.

I'm a thin-crust pepperoni kinda guy, real pepperoni.. this is what you get. Top-of-the-line ingredients and a top-of-the-line pie put together by a team who seems to be extremely positive and uplifting of one another. Need to see more of this in the community! But seriously was blown away and highly recommend it to any pizza lover!!

Dave and Mels have an incredible selection of pies which for our family is perfect. Want to try something new or something original or something local they have them all. I'm sure you could recommend something and next week there's a tester pizza to try!! He seems to be that kind of owner. One to keep the customers happy and coming back !

Their staff are extremely polite and accommodating which can be hard to find these days, especially in the service/food industry. They have a very family-friendly oriented storefront my wife mentioned multipoe times and a cool bench recently installed , don't forget the neighborhood is amazing also!

Parking can be a bit tough since its off lonsdale there and around peak times but 100% worth it if you drive...

This place has to be one of my favourite pizza places. I'm not going to lie and say it was the absolute best pizza I've had, but it was pretty good. The service side of things is where Dave & Mel's really shines through. I have had nothing but good experiences in that aspect, which is worth a lot to me. I ordered for pickup earlier tonight without even thinking about operating hours and set the pickup time for after their closing hours and didn't realize my mistake until after I picked it up. That being said, when I showed up 25 minutes after closing, they were still open, I was greeted with a smile and polite conversation and got my pizza without any issue. Had this been any of the major chains in the area I would not have been able to order and pick up the way I did (let alone be greeted with the same kindness and hospitality). Granted, I won't make this a habit, but it is nice to experience and gives the impression that the owners truly care.

I have a feeling that going forward this will be my go to...

They definitely have the basics right - nice chewy base with the classic blisters. It’s one of the rare pizzas where you can enjoy the beautiful crust. The plain cheese and pepperoni are really good. Truly well done pizza with perfectly curled pepperoni.

However I find some of the experimental pizzas to be hit or miss. Like the one with white sauce, ricotta and fennel sausage has streaks of honey in it. Totally ruins the otherwise good pizza.

Having said that, it’s miles and leagues better than the run of the mill Dominoes and fresh slice joints. The price is fair for the large sizes you get and it’s a pleasure taking to the chef and staff.

EDIT: last few orders have been really disappointing. We ordered the meat lovers and it was overloaded with ham and the whole crust collapsed with so much meat and sauce. I got some slices as takeout and the person didn’t even warm them well and dumped all four slices in...
