Abacus Furniture — Local services in Toronto

Abacus Furniture is truly a disappointment. We had originally purchased a full grain leather sectional back in 2016. Was super happy with the initial customer service and the product itself. Fast forward to 2.5 years later, we started to notice the leather to peel. Immediately we contacted Abacus and they advised us to bring the cushion in for review. When we brought it in, they had a look at the cushion and said they would bring it to the factory to get their insight on why this is the case. Couple days later we were accused that the only way full grain leather could peel was if we were using alcohol or some sort of chemical to clean the couch. Abacus said they would recase the cushions at a cost, which is not acceptable for such a short time period.

Furniture at Abacus is not inexpensive, we were sold on the fact this is quality furniture that will last with proper care. We followed their care instructions - only using a damp with water microfibre cloth and then drying it immediately with a dry microfibre cloth; we have no kids nor animal in the house. It is very disappointing that this was false quality as it didn't even last half as long as much cheaper options and Abacus is not taking responsibility to selling a faulty product.

Furniture shopping seems to always be overly complicated and this seems especially so with outdoor furniture. In our search for a outdoor umbrella that was (A) in stock and (B) not thousands of dollars, we came across a well-reviewed umbrella and saw a listing on Abacus. After calling, I had a great conversation with someone on staff on their in-stock availability and options for the base (so nice to have input on something where you have no idea what you actually need!).

We ordered online with no issue and picked it up curbside same day. There was some confusion about one of the parts with the base and someone from Abacus sorted it out with me over email (I had to send them photos and they sent me photos from a unit they had in stock to fix my problem). This past winter, a raccoon made itself at home on one of our pieces. Amazingly, the only damage was removal of stuffing from two pillows, which Abacus had restuffed for free.
