We heard good things about Buon Giorno so decided to check it out. It's a super small restaurant in a plaza that can be easy to miss - make sure you don't. It is truly authentic Italian cuisine. It's not the place to go for a fancy meal. Instead, it's where you go to taste real Italian cooking, fresh from the Nonna's hands herself. I'm not kidding. There was three generations of family working there who are eager to please you with amazing service and fantastic flavours. The food is fresh, wholesome and made with love.
Veal, chicken cutlets, beef all can be had with sides or in a sandwich. They had pizza and pasta and meatballs of course also. It all looked and smelled incredible in the hot table.
My mother and I arrived there just before lunch and it wasn't long before the place was packed. Obvious that a lot of the blue collar workers loved coming in for their huge sandwiches. There was a couple tables inside and a couple picnic tables outside.
My mother's meal was hot, tasty, full of flavour and the meat she said was super delicious and tender. My mortadella & salomi sandwich was delicious with simple and fresh ingredients. The bun was super fresh too which is always nice.
If I wanted to show someone true Italian cooking, this is the first place I'd take them. Simple, wholesome, amazing food and top-notch service. The manager made us feel relaxed like he was serving us in his own home. Much appreciated.
Thank you Buon Giorno!! Will be coming back soon!
Oh! They also have an amazing coffee and espresso bar. Unfortunately we were too full to try, but next time...
Read moreA hidden gem of a place for the best Italian sandwiches at prepandemic prices. I’ve been two days in a row, and will likely visit again tomorrow since I’m working in the area. The Joey D sandwich (named after the owner) can feed two, filled with very generous amounts of mortadella, salami and capicola, sliced on demand. Bread is perfect, crusty but soft, I ordered two days in a row to bring back to the family. With a bit of spice and tang from the muffuletta, provolone, lettuce and tomato, it’s the most perfect sandwich. Fresh, made to order, call ahead for pickup if you don’t want to wait. Came back second day for more Joey D’s but also tried their lasagna. Multi-thin layers of noodles that gave way nicely when cut with a fork, it’s a beautiful thing smothered in their delicious meat sauce, I like it better than lasagnas from other establishments that charge $30/plate. This place isn’t fancy, it’s good honest home cooking, takeout joint in a strip plaza with a picnic table outside. Made-to-order hot and cold sandwiches, pizza, and a fabulous hot table that I can’t wait to revisit. Veal sandwiches are next on my list! They close early so check hours before heading out. Update: Visited on a Friday to discover their focaccia sandwiches (only on Fridays) and fried calamari...
Read moreTried this place for the first time today after seeing all the positive reviews on here. Ordered 2 chicken sandwiches ($15 each w tax)In my mind the only way you could justify charging that much for a sandwich is if its by far the best in the city. It was awful. Chicken was dry and tasteless, bread was soaking wet and the toppings all basic and gross, sauce is bad, left awful taste in my mouth. Only ended up eating half & left what was leftover at the front door. I don’t know what everyone else is experiencing maybe they haven’t been to other similar italian bakerys and what not across the city but this is no where near 5 stars. Didn’t try anything else but did see their pizza slices that looked burnt and covered with a napkin and their pasta and soup which looked literally disgusting. In my opinion should be ashamed charging what they do but is what it is, if getting away with it all the power to you. Go to san remo which is also expensive but at least you are getting decent quality. Also might want to clean your debit machine was filled with gunk...
