It was the evening of the last ginormous snowstorm that hit Vancouver & the lower mainland. I was actually driving to the London Drugs in the same location when I noticed this store. After locating the L.D. store and purchasing a new cellphone & 2 each of 32, 64, 128 & 256 GB MicroSD Cards for only $8 each I decided to stop in the Alenka European Foods Store & purchase some food stuffs that I occasionally purchase and bring home to prepare & eat by my lonesome. Luckily, this time I had 2 of my good friends with me & they agreed to pitch in on the purchase and then offered to prepare what we'd purchased for a wholesome dinner for three. I've no idea what it was, I left the choosing and preparation of the foodstuffs in their very capable hands and I was NOT disappointed. I ate warmed leftovers from that shopping spree for the next week with a smile on my face and a bloated belly afterwards. If you've not ever visited the Alenka European Foods Store, your missing out on a host of great foods. Try it once and see for yourself the quality of their foods, all at decent prices for a...

Read moreThis grocery store has become one of my favourite spots in the city. Last week I came in and walked out with Ukrainian chocolates, pickled garlic, Cossack mustard, and a stash of pelmeni that basically carried me through the week. This time, I stocked up on roasted buckwheat and sour cherry preserves to make a proper Ukrainian-style breakfast, and let me tell you, it’s giving cozy Slavic cottagecore realness.
If you’re trying to impress your angry Slavic girlfriend, this place has everything you need. From the essentials like гречка to nostalgic treats and imports you won’t find at big box stores, it’s packed with personality and amazing finds.
The prices are fair, the shelves are full of surprises, and the staff are friendly, even if you’re just guessing what’s in half the packages. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to try new things, cook old family recipes, or just stock up your pantry.
Highly recommend. I’ll...
