The biggest complain: nasty and terrifying silverfish merging into ur room thru ur shower drain. Next is kitchen fridge being too small for 4 ppl u share it with (room fridges allowed), random noises and ticking sounds at night, u will hear every driving by car at night, random ppl walking thru ur wing hallway (probably facility staff), if u cant message delivery man to just leave ur package near office door (outside basically) than u have to manually receive it (most of the times they just inform delivery failed due to missed connection), no air conditioning: extremely cold Canadian winters and super hot summers, silverfish in kitchen. Lastly, fire alarm check consists of painful frequency that was probably used by can government to torcher rus spies during cold war, unbearable. Good stuff: nice and respectful landlord representative (although i got no apology and explanation for fire alarm at midnight caused by real hot water problem), i got lucky getting into the wing with decent sized kitchen and nice roommates, a parking lot, hot water season wide access, consistent hallway and kitchen cleaning, the place feels relatively safe (although theres no gender division), personal: too small toilet,...
Read moreThe kitchen when I first moved in was disgusting. Surfaces were dirty and sticky, even places that seemingly had no way of getting that way. There were piles of old junk, such as gross plates and broken kitchen knifes from the old renters. The fridge had old and expired food in it, and I found two BUCKETS of empty lighters, that's not an exaduration. The one time I got locked out, the person who came to let me in yelled at me on the phone after calling me during an in person exam I was in. Somehow no one passed along that info to him. After running back to the apartment, I was met by hostility and a $100 fine from him, which the landlord didn't sign off on, and was in its entirety, illigal. I have called the parent company multiple times and left voicemails, being ignored every single time. The internet was nonexistent for the first three months of living here, and no compensation was given, even though internet is a guarantee in the rental agreement. The landlords are very good at pretending to be doing something to solve the issues. Company, building, cleanliness are all 2/10. Don't live here if you can help it, it's not...
Read moreI lived at 600 First Ave for almost a year and overall, I had a very positive experience.. I always felt safe, it's only a 10 minute walk to Niagara College, I was very grateful for the private bathroom/shower, spacious bedroom, close to grocery stores and the mall, bus stop right across the street etc. Katrina (the building manager) is super nice and always ready to help out if you need anything!
The room is perfect for someone who likes to have their own space. It's nice to have a room and bathroom separate from other students, although it does get a bit isolating because there isn't a common area to hangout in (not including the kitchen).
The kitchen could be cleaner but it wasn't a huge issue. The only real downside is the fact that there is no A/C in the bedrooms. It got extremely hot in the summer.. you will for sure need a window unit.
If I decide to go back to school, I would definitely apply to live in this building again. I highly recommend renting at...
