Not a train station but a stop to board Tourist train to Zapaquira for the Salt Cathedral. Maybe traffic stop, but original station was 3 miles south at Sabana. If you have not bought the ticket via Tuboleta, or at the Sabana or Usaquin station, you can still buy from conductor waiting at the track. I gave 5 star for the unique experience of Tourist Train, but 1 star for the station as its basically a track with small platform, no guard rail or structure from out side or from you standing on the track. But the train is very unique experience. Old train (I believe remains of last train from 50 years ago when national train system went away and since then this is only train in the country), but guests on the train are mostly Colombian and some foreign tourist. I believe it has 8 or 10 carts. Although, I didn't go around, few carts I visited were full. People were so fun and friendly. Staff were friendly. You get there around 8:15am, train arrives around 8:30 then board based on your ticket to your carrier (A-I), then to your seat. I set on B3-4, not a good seat, It was a first cart next to the engine so smell of petro was hard and as front seat the wall front of you gave a lesser view then smaller leg space then other seats. After boarding, you ride up to Usaquin to pick up other passengers, then conductor goes around checking tickets as well as selling Cathedral tickets. Then you have musicians playing music. Once arrive, you get off on track, even there is a station, its not in use. Walk up to Salt Mine enjoy your day and come back by 3:15PM. When you come back all the seats are reversed, and the engine moved to other end, so B was first cart but became last. As we take off at 3:15, few stragglers showed up late try to catch up to the train. Train did stop at the end of town to pick up about 2 dozen stragglers. Although, it was a long ride, experiencing train ride through town and country side was very enjoyable, and seeing all the locals taking pic/video of us riding by. When train goes all the cross traffics...
Read moreThis is the station where we take the Tourist Train to Zipaquirá during the weekend. We had to walk across from the large complex to the train tracks to board. The train is there waiting for us when we arrive half an hour before departure. There are some stalls nearby to buy snacks. Minus a star because the station does not have a formal train station. We had to walk around the tracks and grass to get on the train. Make sure you arrive on time (at least 15 minutes ahead) as the train leaves right on the stated time (for us it...
