Visiting this monastery was an immersion in Byzantine spirituality! Beyond the sacred icons such as that of Saint Chemon (in golden tones) and the Theotokos "Tuatania," the true marvel is the fresco in the main dome. It likely depicts the Pantocrator, with vivid colors filtering in the natural light. The minute details—such as the gold-leaf halos and the draperies—are breathtaking. The work stands out for its majesty: it occupies the entire space and seems to envelop you in a mystical embrace when you look up.

Absolutely not...

A lovely Byzantine style church in the city centre. Entry is free, of course, as in all churches in Greece. Quite well decorated with icons and wall paintings. Most importantly it holds the relics of Agios Grigorios Palamas, after whom it is named. Palamas was a monk and later archbishop of Thessaloniki. He was a very strong defender of the Orthodox faith. He was made a saint after his death. The church is on a site which dates back to the 13th century, but the building has undergone several reconstructions following times of damage etc....
