We came to Achilleion in Thessaloniki on our last night before an early morning flight, and it turned into one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We made it very clear to our waitress, Irini, that we needed to leave early since we had to be at the airport at 5 a.m., but she ignored us completely. My girlfriend had to get up over seven times just to get her attention. She was rude, dismissive, and outright disrespectful. I asked for simple things repeatedly and nothing ever came.
Other waiters explained they couldn’t help since it wasn’t their table, which I understand, but it only made Irini’s disgusting lack of service stand out even more. The service overall was absolute trash. To make matters worse, the manager wasn’t just unhelpful—he was arrogant, condescending, and completely unprofessional.
This was supposed to be a special last evening together, maybe just a small bottle of wine to enjoy, but instead it became one of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences I’ve ever had anywhere. Truly...
Read moreWe joined our friends around 22:00, and while they opted for various beverages, I chose a cup of tea. To my surprise, the waitress, wearing a rather lackluster smile and displaying an impolite demeanor, informed me that the "machine" for tea had closed. I found myself pondering what exactly a "tea machine" might entail, perhaps a pre-prepared tea bag. It seemed they were unwilling to simply boil water and serve it with a tea bag, especially since their tea offerings were exclusively ready-to-go.
Adding to the peculiarity of the situation, it became apparent that the establishment catered to a unique clientele—Balkan escorts and rural people. This blend of demographics might explain the unconventional approach to tea service. If one wishes to emulate a European ambiance, it's worth noting that cafes and high-end bars and restaurants in Europe often serve tea and coffee even late into the night. This experience has left me with a resolve to avoid such establishments...
Read moreOne of the most overpriced and disappointing experiences I’ve had in Thessaloniki. From the start, we were left standing around without anyone acknowledging us. When we asked to sit at a larger outdoor table, we were told it was only for guests who were ordering food -which we were - but the policy came across as strange and unwelcoming.
The service overall was unpleasant; both the host and waitstaff had a lot of attitude. We ordered a pizza, which turned out to be among the worst I’ve ever had -definitely in my bottom five.
To make things worse, my mom had placed her personal water bottle on the table (which she needs due to heart medication), and the waitress asked her to remove it -presumably because it didn’t match the restaurant’s aesthetic? That felt unnecessary and inconsiderate.
The vibe of the place seems more about appearances than food or hospitality. Most people seemed to be there to be seen rather than to enjoy a meal or a good...
