An absolute star turn of a small museum. It starts well with restored Roman mosaics outside, lovely cool building, enthusiastic and informative staff, great descriptions in Greek, Italian & English, and an interactive room for kids and grownups if they like. It is small - but the content is very varied. An excellent staff member showed us where to find the sites in Sami - graveyards, baths, Roman harbour - about 40 minutes round trip. It's a shame they don't have a street map and guide to these locations, but that's a minor gripe. Any interest in history - go there !

A fantastic museum with a great deal of artifacts spanning from the Early Hellenic through to the Late Hellenic and then the Roman periods. Many of the archeological sites featured in the museum are within walking distance, while the acropolis and castle foundations can be found on a hill to the east (a very short drive away). A thoroughly enjoyable day trip! There is also a certain sadness to the site visits as the archaeological excavation equipment is still present at some of the sites, before funding expired.

Amazing experience at the archaeological museum of Sami! I was positively impressed by their collection, the museum gave an interesting overview on the early habitants of Cephalonia! And the Greek and Roman periods of Sami and the cemetery of Fiskardo. We were welcomed with very informative and friendly staff of the museum and they provided us with a tablet to get extra information on each room and its exhibits. Very recommend if you are in Sami.

A small but perfectly exhibited collection of artifacts in four rooms, covering the ancient greek and roman periods of the island of Kefalonia, with a focus on Sami and the eastern side of the islands. It only opened in 2021, so everything feels and looks new.

Good collection of coins, food and wine vessels, several sherds, two large sarcophagi and a very touching display of a tiny baby who died only two weeks after birth and rests in a roman tile.

There is a room for those who like tech more, with a VR walk through display, but the more traditional displays are expertly written and translated in English and Italian from the original Greek.

A true gem, well...

Really interested to visit but the reception was really poor. Made us feel most unwelcome, asked for passports to check our age without explaining why. The exhibition itself was brilliant but spoilt by a school party that turned up just after us and basically got in the way of all the exhibits we were looking at, and they were loud, clearly not listening to their teachers or the lady giving information. Can't take pictures or videos of exhibits which was a shame, but they didn't provide any pictures or postcards for us to purchase either. There is so much beautiful history on Kefalonia which can be explained here, they just aren't interested in sharing it at...

What a gem this place - it’s a modern, cool building housing artefacts from all over Kefalonia but with a specific focus on the region around Sami (Same).

Very well presented with clear descriptions in both Greek and English, the exhibits provide a vivid and fascinating insight into the history of this place and the people who’ve lived here.

This was a real find for us and we would recommend it to anyone.

When you leave, look out for the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Sami, which is right next door. The entrance is on the opposite side to the museum and definitely worth...
