After reading the negative reviews we wanted to go to the Blue Lagoon, but did not want to book an excursion out there through our cruise line. We decided to take a chance because our ship was in port overnight and figured we could take a chance day 1 in port.
Our ship docked Skarfabakki Cruise Terminal. I booked a tour for 4 adults to the Blue Lagoon and was advised by the Blue Lagoon to book our transport through Destination Blue Lagoon.
We had not issues getting to the Blue Lagoon and back to the cruise port. But, I can see where people may have some issues.
I called Destination Blue Lagoon the morning we arrived to confirm our reservation and find out where the pick up point is (there are lanes with post indicating pick up points for cruise excursions, taxies, private tours, ect). The number I called didn't go through, so I called the Blue Lagoon directly and they transferred me over to Destination Blue Lagoon.
The rep was very helpful and confirmed our pick up time (1pm) and location. She told me where to wait for the bus and that we would be picked up by either a white, green, or orange minivan and it was vital that we were at the pick up location 30 minutes prior to our scheduled time.
Here's where problems might occur -
After reading the reviews we decided to go out 45 minutes early (at 12:15pm for a 1pm pick up time) and waited at the location we were told to wait at by the rep I spoke with. The mini van showed up at 12:25pm, but in the wrong location. Since I was told what van to look for, I walked over and confirmed it was our van. A port authority worker came out and scolded the driver about parking in the wrong place. The driver did walk around and ask people outside if they were waiting for Destination Blue Lagoon. He did pick up other passengers and left the port around 12:35pm (our pick up time was 1pm with directions to be in place 30 mins prior).
I would suggest calling and confirming your reservation the day of, verifying exactly where the pickup point is, and making sure that you are at the waiting point 10 to 15 minutes before the 30 minutes.
The mini bus does not take you to the Blue Lagoon, but to the Destination Blue Lagoon main office (which is located in a hostel - Bus Hostel of Reykjavik). From there, you will transfer to a larger bus with other guest from various pick up points.
On the return journey, they take you back to the central bus point, then you take a mini bus to your...

Filling a spare day before leaving on a Quark Expedition to the west coast of Greenland, my hotel’s concierge recommended the Blue Lagoon. I agreed – I’ve been there twice before and enjoyed the experience. The hotel had a free shuttle that got me to the airport around 7:00 a.m., in time for the 7:30 a.m. transfer that I had booked earlier that morning.
While waiting at the airport, I was concerned that I confirmed where the bus would be leaving from. I asked this of the Information Station customer assistance person at the airport’s information booth, and he (mistakenly) told me the bus would be leaving from the lot that is closest to the airport’s entrance, on the left side of the parking lots. Not so. I watched for the “Destination Blue Lagoon” logo prominently posted on both the front and side of the bus, and saw that it was taking on passengers at 7:15 a.m. from the bus parking lot on the right side of the parking lots, adjacent to the lines where taxis were waiting.
Once the driver confirmed that his was indeed the bus that would depart from KEF at 7:30 and would be going directly to the Blue Lagoon, I could relax and settled in for the ride. We arrived about 25 minutes later, and as we disembarked the driver pointed to the location where we would go to catch the return trip to the airport. There are only a few return trips – the next one after he dropped us off around 8 a.m. would depart the Blue Lagoon at noon.
That was more than enough time to fully appreciate what the Blue Lagoon has to offer. After showering and entering the lagoon, and wandering around for about an hour, I was ready to rinse off the silica face mask and catch up on my reading. By the time the Destination Blue Lagoon bus returned, I was ready to go back to the airport. No issues, no problems, just a very convenient way to enjoy...
Read moreWe were picked up at the Blue Lagoon June 4, 2023 around 1215. The lady operating the bus was unhelpful and rude. She was the first bus driver not to help with assistance with luggage. I also observed her ignoring another passenger who boarded the bus requesting for help about being overcharged another ticket. She stated: “I don’t know. Go to office.” She never smiled or greeted anyone. I asked her in the beginning where I will be dropped off at, she muttered something in Icelandic and walked off.
When the bus arrived at the Grand Center Hotel, she reported “Everyone get off of going to Grand Hotel” I got up from my seat and proceeded to follow her outside and asked her while showing my phone if this was the stop for “Grandi Center Hotel” she then motioned with her hand, ignored me and walked away. My spouse saw this from the window and came out to speak with her of how rude and impolite she is. She stated: “Well? I tried to tell her.” All she did was ignore and motion me away. I don’t speak Icelandic, the least she can do is give me a few seconds of her time. After confronting her about the behavior she displayed, she continued ignoring passengers as she was before. We arrived at a gas station where she told everyone to get off and transfer to a mini bus shuttle. The gentlemen operating that was nice (probably from a different transportation company) She should be fired from her job. People come to Iceland for travel and spend money to enjoy trip, the least people can do especially working in the tourist...
