A group of us shared a room with multiple beds. We didn’t have a private bathroom and had to use the shared toilets and showers on the first and second floor.
The room was nice and comfortable and did everything we needed it to do as a place to sleep in Reykjavík. It had a sink in the room which was really useful. The kitchen is well equipped with at least 3 sets of burners and private/free food fridges. But the kitchen and eating spaces feel a little grimy and not the cleanest.
However the downfall of this guesthouse was the showers. Verging on gross. The first floor shower is heavily clogged. I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND ALL guests to bring shower shoes unless they want to stand in murky water pooling around their feet. I would shower for 15 seconds, turn off the water, wait for the water to drain and then repeat. The shower door was a mix of panels and a limp shower curtain that was difficult to slide, smelled gross, and didn’t provide good coverage. I was told the second floor shower was cleaner and unclogged by my friends and tried to use not those showers the next day. What blew my mind was the second floor shower was ALWAYS RUNNING?!? Literally. It can’t be turned off and is always running and I can’t imagine how much water it’s wasting. Second the lights on the second floor wouldn’t working. At night I wasn’t able to turn the light on to shower and had to reuse the gross first floor shower again. The next morning my friend tried to use the second floor shower and found he couldn’t turn the light OFF. These showers were so bad I elected to pay 1000 ISK to shower on the Laugavegur trail backcountry huts which were cleaner and nicer IMO than have to shower in this guesthouse again.
But if you don’t need to shower, this guesthouse is solid and they were very friendly in holding our luggage on checkout day while we...
Read moreI stayed here my whole time in Iceland. It was nice and quiet and none of the other guests were loud and rowdy. Everybody kept to themselves. There was a dresser, desk, and bed with a headboard to put things on. Along with a sink which was pretty great. I think the only thing that I wasn't a fan of was that the comforter was small and so was the pillow. They weren't as fluffy. The laundry room was ok. One of the dryers didn't heat up al my clothes entirely so I had to put them up in my room to finish drying. It sucked. The kitchen was cute and pretty clean. Nobody took any of my food which was a plus. It was just the bed and laundry situation that did it for me. Aside from that this place is pretty great. You get your own room and it's not like a huge dorm with multiple beds like other places would be. Close to the church up the street, restaurants and it's on a main road so just in case you get lost finding the place, remember: Head to the church then go south and if you walk down that street you'll see it right at the light! Not bad pricing. Just make sure to book WAY ahead so you can get in there. Especially if you're a solo traveler and you don't like bunking...
Read moreMy second time staying at Igdlo Guesthouse in Reykjavík. Very friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere. The place is located close to Reykjavík city and only a short walk from the flybus' bus stop. The building is older, but the rooms are functional with comfortable beds and blackout curtains. The restrooms and showers are shared but in okay condition and cleaned regularly. You may hear noises from the hallway from people unlocking their rooms (keypad system) during the evening but it didn't bother us. You can have your breakfast here for 1100 isk/day (simple breakfast: bread, jam, peanutbutter, ham, cheese, oats, yoghurt) or you can bring your own that can be stored in the shared kitchen. There is tea and coffee free of charge, and you can borrow indoor slippers and raincoats. I would recommend Igdlo Guesthouse for a week or less in Reykjavík, for the couple, single or family with older kids that enjoy the possibility of making their own food and meeting other travelers. The staff is very helpful and can guide you in your plans for hikes and activities in...
