A small shop was opened in Mumbai's Mahim area — just 40-50 sq ft. With just ₹2,000 in his pocket. Named 'Vijay Sales', after his brother. This was the extraordinary journey of a common man named Nanu Gupta. Today, the same name is one of the leading electronics retail brands in India, with an annual turnover of over ₹8,000 crore and 140+ stores across the country.
Initially, Guptaji would go door to door selling fans, sewing machines, and radios. Connecting with customers, understanding their needs, and providing honest service was his passion. He would keep all the TVs on in the shop — so that the person coming into the shop could have a first-hand experience. This simple trick of his became a game-changer in increasing sales.
20 years later, in 1986, he opened a second shop in Bandra. Opening another store after so long seemed crazy to many, but Guptaji's focus was "strong foundation, then expansion". Each of his stores focused on product display, customer service and transaction transparency.
Big stores were opened from 1994 – Shivaji Park, Sion, Goregaon… and then after 2007, he expanded his branches all over India – in many cities like Pune, Delhi, Surat, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad.
Today, Vijay Sales has thousands of types of electronics products available – from TVs, refrigerators, laptops, mobiles to even smart gadgets. Nanu Gupta's sons Nilesh and Ashish and grandson Karan now look after the business, but the core values are the same – trust, honesty and customer service.
The real highlight of this success story is that he never rushed into the business. He embraced slow but steady growth. The journey that started with Rs 2,000 has today turned into an empire worth thousands of crores.
This is not just a story of business success, but a great example of Indian entrepreneurship that stands on the strength of determination, tireless hard work and trust...

I had one of the worst customer service experiences after purchasing a Blue Star AC from Vijay Sales on 8th April 2025. The installation was delayed multiple times and finally completed late at night on 11th April. Immediately after, the AC started making unusual noise. I personally visited the store on 12th April, where I was assured by the sales manager Sarvesh and customer care representative Abdullah that the faulty unit would be picked up on 13th April and a refund would be processed as early as possible.
That never happened. Despite multiple follow-ups, no one answers their calls, no one calls back, and my emails remain unanswered. It’s impossible to reach them. This kind of customer negligence is shocking for a brand like Vijay Sales.
The AC was finally picked up on 14th April, but as of 20th April, there has been no refund and no official communication. Their only email response was a generic message saying the request was forwarded — no timeline, no accountability.
I am left without my money and without a product.
If this is how Vijay Sales treats its customers after a sale, I will never purchase from them again. I am now left with no option but to escalate the issue through the National Consumer Helpline and raise it publicly on social media platforms.
Beware before buying anything from Vijay Sales — their post-sales support is...
