Isola Bella — Local services in Taormina

We visited Isola Bella in Taormina and it was an experience I can absolutely recommend. The entrance fee was very affordable (around €3 per person), which makes it easy for everyone to enjoy this special place. Even though parts of the site were unfortunately closed due to ongoing renovations, the visit was still well worth it.

What makes Isola Bella so fascinating is the way the entire little island feels like a single residence. Walking through the house, you see not only the main rooms but also charming details like a pool, a bedroom, and smaller spaces that now serve as a kind of museum. It gives you the impression of stepping back into a different time, when this island was a private retreat.

Another highlight is the path leading down to the boathouse, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding bay and gives a real sense of the island’s connection to the sea. Even with the restricted access, we could imagine how special it must have been to live there.

The overall atmosphere is unique – a mix of history, architecture, and nature all packed into this tiny but extraordinary island. Combined with its beautiful setting in Taormina, it’s definitely a must-see. Despite the renovation works, Isola Bella left a lasting impression and I’d recommend it to anyone...

Beautiful place to visit! It is a must if visiting Sicily! Parking is just down the road at paid parking for all day and a short walk or you can take chancesfree on the street but you need to get their early for that! Lots of places to eat on street before descending stairs to the beach but their are options to eat there too...be prepared to pay a premium. Many places to sit for free on the rocky beach but in the peek of the summer, if you want to sit at the premium seating in beach with umbrellas AND you don't stay at that hotel, be prepared to spend about 40 Euro per person!! (Not per seat...per person!)) There is plenty of free seating. Bring water shoes and umbrella for best experience. You can visit the nice villa on the isola bella island for a few Euro per person. Great views from there. There is also a free fresh water shower offered for when you are finished with your swimming. Recommend bringing a snorkle or goggles too bc the water is very clean and clear and lots of fish and sea...

A magical place — a must-visit! You can reach the island by boat from Stresa — round trip costs about €10. The island is small but absolutely stunning.

The Borromeo Palace is truly impressive — luxurious interiors, marble, frescoes, antique furniture, and artwork. Everything is beautifully maintained, and each room feels like a museum.

The garden is like a fairytale: cascading terraces, fountains, statues, white peacocks, and breathtaking views of Lake Maggiore. It’s incredibly well-kept and perfect for a peaceful walk or photos.

💡 Useful info: • 🎟 Entry to the palace and gardens is about €20. • ⛴ Boats from Stresa depart every 15–30 minutes (€10 round trip). • 🕰 Mornings are the best time to visit — fewer crowds. • 🚻 Toilets, cafés, and seating areas are available. • 📷 Fantastic photo opportunities, a relaxing and inspiring atmosphere.
