Isola Bella - Rooms Il Pescatore — Local services in Taormina

We stayed three nights at Il Pescatore. We had a little trouble finding the entrance originally as the sign is on the opposite side of the road to where the B&B is shown on the map. ||We also made the mistake of driving down to the door of the B&B which was a mistake and should have walked as was suggested by the guy in the coffee shop at the top of the hill. There is no where to turn around at the bottom of the hill and our little car didn't have enough power to reverse up the hill so it was a 21 point turn to try and manouvere the car to face the right way. then the car didn't have enough power to get up the hill going forwards so we had to make a run at it. ( which was a bit of fun, note to self listen to the locals next time.) There is plenty of free on street parking at the top of the driveway.||Once we got met Luigi and got access we couldn't have been happier. the room was big and airy with our own kitchen with a working hob and fridge. Our room was fitted with a small mobile air con unit which was just a little too small for the size of the room as the room was very large. Not a big deal but it needed to be left on all day to try and keep the room bearable for us Irish. Those used to warmer climates may not even bother with it.||||The views over Isola bella are probably the best in all of Taormina. Breakfast as mentioned by most people is excellent. It was great to get fresh scrambled eggs and bacon. Luigi used to be a chef himself so these were done to perfection.||The beach is only a few minutes walk from the b&b and the main town is either a bus ride or a drive away if need be. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around the beach area so unless you are staying for more than a few days or fancy a bit of sightseeing there may be no need to go up to the main town. ||||All in all we had a wonderful three days and most likely would stay here again if we visited...

Pros: Really beautiful spot, sunrise was the best in lower Taormina and walking distance to Isola Bella beach and Island (entrance to the north). Spacious room with a little mini fridge. The owner is really lovely and tries to help, just speak slowly and he can manage English quite well. They warn you in the booking that it is a long walk (~300m down hill, up stairs, and along gravel) so be ready to carry your bags. But it's worth it. Tha patio is gorgeous and such a beautiful view. Paid parking is slightly south and across the street. Do NOT park on the street though. They told us it is free to do so but we got a €50 fine from the police for parking on the street.

Cons: Parking was not free even though they said it was free to park on the street. No signs anywhere but be warned, do not park on the street. Communication could be better. We were not told how to access our accommodation until after we arrived; post-30+ hours of flying and driving. Would recommend contacting the owners in advance to sort out access as they didn't communicate well in advance. Ask for photos of where to go as we found it confusing. If you'll need internet, we recommend Flexiroam. Also there is limited privacy from the other units but only 2 other units...

Prenotato un giorno da Air b&b o Booking. La camera assegnataci non era quella che si visionava dal sito. Siamo finiti in un tugurio antiquato dove l’unica nota positiva era il letto. Il clima c’era ma non si riusciva a regolare (e fidatevi che non ho problemi di dimestichezza con gli apparecchi elettrici). Il bagno era quello della mia bis-bis nonna (pace all’anima sua). Doccia con incorporata seduta idromassaggio degli anni ‘70 ovviamente non funzionante e tutta ingiallita e incrostata. Il doccino classico invece funzionava. Il gabinetto perdeva acqua quando si scaricava ed era rappezzato con nastro adesivo.

La posizione per molti è fantastica ma analizziamola nel dettaglio:

1)Se sei automunito o la metti lungo la strada o in parcheggi a pagamento che non sono aperti h24. E quella strada non è per niente larga o illuminata. Corri il rischio te la rovinino.

2)Giunto al cancello (che apri elegantemente con una chiave attaccata ad un catenaccio butatta verso l’interno della proprietà) ti spetta una discesa al buio (se sfortunatamente come me arrivi di notte) verso l’ingresso delle camere. C’è giusto una lucina con sensore automatico che illumina quanto la torcia di un telefono. La discesa è tostina se la si fa con valige… e al buio… e con 40 gradi di notte. Poi alterna sterrato a cemento… cioè veramente… il mio muratore con 500 euro te la sistema. Un po’ di luce c’è solo quando arrivi davanti a sta struttura dove, per inciso, non tutti gli interruttori delle luci funzionano.

3)La vista di giorno è sicuramente fantastica ma dipende anche da dove te la vedi (quale camera) e non parliamo della ferrovia che passa proprio li sotto ed è veramente trafficata.

Non ho conosciuto personalmente i proprietari ma non mi sono sembrati molto accoglienti e disponibili come ho letto in alcune recensioni. Dovevo arrivare a Catania, il volo è stato dirottato su Palermo e tra una cosa e l’altra sono arrivato a Catania alle 21 invece che alle 16:30. Volevo poter mangiare qualcosa con calma lungo la strada, magari in un bel posticino ma, il/la proprietario/a continuava a dire che quando sarei stato li davanti mi avrebbe dato le istruzioni per accedere. Quindi gran corsa per arrivare perchè, che né so, pensavo mi volesse dare direttamente le chiavi e invece c’era la classica cassettina con la serratura (lo potevi dire invece che rispondere ai messaggi a monosillabi!!!). Ovviamente alle 23 nessuno mi faceva più da mangiare e siamo dovuti salire a Taormina dove, come prima cena io e la mia compagna abbiamo dovuto scegliere un Pub (che grazie al cielo era aperto nonostante l’orario).

Sinceramente non lo consiglio o quantomeno potrebbe valerne la pena se la camera rispecchiasse quello che suggeriscono i vari siti internet. Fate attenzione perchè non tutte le camere sono riportate in foto. Quella bella esiste perchè l’ho vista, ma non era certamente la nostra. Per una notte andava bene, per due assolutamente no, figuriamoci per la settimana.

Ah, per inciso hanno risposto alla recensione dicendo che non sono stato da loro. Talmente imbelli da non capire che se recensisce “Andrea” non necessariamente la prenotazione è stata fatta a nome suo. Nelle foto che ho messo si vede chiaramente la loro insegna e la vista prima di arrivare alla struttura.

Non intendo modificare nulla, la camera che mi è stata data non era per nulla confortevole come avete dato a credere dalle foto. Magari a qualcuno è andata meglio. A noi decisamente no. Non vedevamo l’ora di andarcene. Non l’ho fotografata per paura si rompesse il telefono da quanto era asettica e priva di qualsivoglia...
