In a word, incredible ! We have long wanted to stay in a traditional Ryokan but not until coming across Masunoie did we finally feel we had found something special.
Everything about our two nights stay was perfect. The 200 year old thatched roof house is absolutely beautiful, in the most meticulously maintained Japanese garden setting.
Day visitors to Oshino Hakkai can access the main garden for a fee, while guests enjoy the entire grounds including the rear waterfall garden included in their stay.
The very clean traditional tatami rooms are most comfortable and our room featured a balcony overlooking the rear waterfall garden, simply a delight.
The private onsens feature corner glass windows looking out to the gardens !
The traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner courses were generous and delicious, kindly catering to our diet preferences.

Read moreHighly recommend this minshuku in a 200 year old thatched roof house. There are five guest rooms in total. The proprietress is nice and welcoming. The food was amazing, giving a nice home cooked feeling to it, especially the trout as the name of the inn suggests! The onsen is quite warm and comfortable. Overall there was a nostalgic feel to the place. Even visiting at the end of winter, the garden was pretty, with a clear view of the peak of Mt Fuji. I'm sure it will be even more stunning in other times...
