Kiddy Land — Local services in Tokyo

There's a definite perk to being a navigator in a foreign country: you can control where you go and not tell your traveling companions where you're headed. That's exactly how I tricked my mom and brother into Kiddy Land. I told them of a magical place filled with all the things that I love.

This is floor after floor of kawaii insanity: there is absolutely nothing you can find elsewhere that they don't have in abundance here, and then some. All the latest and greatest in Sanrio swag and even American staples can be found. There are Japanese themed items such as the wooden kokeshi collectibles.

It can be pretty hectic here; people of all ages frequent this place- and not always accompanied by children. You might be under the impression that these items would be cheaper since they are produced locally, but this is far from the truth. The prices were equal or greater than what you would find in the States. Unless you're looking for something really specific, this might not be the shop to buy gifts for loved ones.

Kiddy Land is a bit of a throwback toy store that you do not really see in the US any more. We have been to it on both our trips to Tokyo and it was wildly popular with all of us. Each floor is roughly themed and then each part of that theme is partitioned with the type of toy or character. The place is kind of narrow so it feels congested but it was never impossible to move around.
