The All Day Place (ADP) Shibuya is the perfect place to use as a base to explore the Shibuya area, as long as you are traveling light on humans and belongings. It was opened in April 2022 and still feels quite new. ||ADP is conveniently located just off of Meiji-dori, about 450 metres (a 6-7 minute walk) north from the Miyamasuzaka Exit of Shibuya station. I took the JR East Narita Express (N’EX) train from the airport and was able to get from the terminal to Shibuya Station in about 1 hour 20 minutes. There are of course many other transportation options, but the N’EX placed me within easy walking range of ADP, even with luggage, for ¥2,500 (each way) which is a bargain. Pro-tip: If you take the N’EX and plan on staying in Japan for less than 14 days, the discounted round trip option I paid for is available for ¥5,000 and saves you around 18% compared to buying a one-way fare each way. ||ADP is very much a self-service experience. Checking in involves going up to the lobby which is located on the 2nd floor via the elevator that is just past the street level restaurant/cafe (you will need to scan your key card to access this elevator after hours). During work hours, the hotel staff sit around a glass table that is flanked by the elevators on one side, and a row of check in kiosks on the other. Using the check in kiosks is self explanatory with multiple language options available (though the staff is very eager to help), and if all of the steps are completed correctly, you will get a receipt with your room details on it along with a key card. Bear in mind check in time is 3pm and check out is 11am. There is a luggage storage room and clean bathrooms near the check in area in case you arrive or leave outside of those hours. ||Back to the point in my first paragraph about traveling light. I stayed for 3 nights and booked a Compact room for 2 nights and a Large Corner King room for the last night.||The Compact room is tiny (think single college dorm room), but very efficiently laid out. Once you walk through the door, the toilet and shower doors are immediately left and right of where you are standing. I would personally struggle with sharing this room with another person. If you bring a full size (30”) suitcase you will have to keep it closed and upright, or you will not be able to get in and out of the room. Also, the only seating surface is a stool that is located next to the trash can under the desk/sink/table. Pro-tip: I found that there was enough space in the toilet area to keep my luggage stood up in and out of the way, while remaining useable. ||The Large Corner King room feels like mansion compared to the Compact. There is an actual hallway, and the bathroom is in its own enclosed space. A cushioned section of the bed frame serves as a bench (though to be honest the cushion fabric looked in need of a wash). Keeping a full size suitcase laid out on the provided luggage rack in the hallway means having to squeeze by it to get in and out of the room.||Sound levels are very low in both rooms, I recorded 32-33dB at midnight. However, there is construction on a new building happening across the street, which means sound intrusion bumps up a few decibels in the morning. ||Both rooms have the exact same features in terms of amenities. There is a small fridge, a TV, an electric kettle, 2 tea cups, a pitcher for drinking water, a hairdryer and a room humidifier. ADP provides a toothbrush and toothpaste film, that must be seen and tried to be believed, along with 2 glasses in the bathroom area. There is also a lockable cubby/drawer that you can set your own combination on for storing valuables in. ||Interestingly, there was a set of pajamas in the room, which seems to be common place in small hotels (I visited friends at a neighboring hotel on this trip and they had them there too). Even more interestingly, they were the wrong size for me when I first got to the room, but were changed to the correct size by housekeeping the following day. ||There is a drinking water dispenser in the laundry room which is located on the 8th floor, which also features a craft beer vending machine (!). The 3 washer/dryer units are coin operated and the laundry room smelled clean.||There are several vending machines and “konbini” (convenience stores) located near the hotel, Starbucks is a stone’s throw away at the Meiji-dori intersection. The hotel restaurant was also always busy, and it seems locals like to dine here (always a good sign).||All in all, I would stay here again without hesitation. I had compared prices of several hotels within a 1 km radius of Shibuya Station, and I felt ADP represented the best value based on price, room comfort and location versus the other properties...
Read moreExcellent experience. Much has been written in other reviews about the laid back receptionist area and self-serve check-in, but there was always two attendants present and when I checked-in, they were at hand to help me through the quick process. ||Entry to every room requires taking two elevators--the first from the street level to the second level and the second from the receptionist area on the second floor to the actual rooms' levels. Neither elevator is large, but the wait was only mild for the first elevator because there is just one. For the second elevator, there are two and they arrived upon summoning quickly every time during my stay. For security, the second elevator will only function upon swiping one's room card at the elevator bank on the second level next to the receptionist area. I liked that because that ensured that only guests could access the actual room levels. ||My hotel room was compact like may other reviewers have noted about their rooms, and the view was over the rooftops of nearby buildings and devoid of any street views. But, the room was exceptionally quiet and every nook and cranny was efficiently utilized, reminding me of a luxury cruise line's cabin. The amenities were delightful including a hot water kettle that heated the tap water I filled it with in less than a minute; the pajamas on the bed; slippers in their hammock near the door; the bidet in the combined shower and water closet area; the black-out curtains and semi-transparent overlay curtains; the provided bamboo toothbrushes and toothpaste papers; a nice firm bed; and an efficient cooling system with the control panel only in Japanese (a helpful attendant offered to come up and walked me through its operation mid-way through my stay).||On the second level, there is a restaurant that features pizzas for lunch and dinner among other items and. breakfast. Hotel guests receive 10% off on select pizzas. The restaurant was ultra clean, the wait staff courteous and efficient, and the pizza delicious and generous sized. I ate there twice during my stay! The restaurant has an interesting covered patio/balcony with plastic curtains and heat lamps for winter (not sure if it was air conditioned like the rest of the restaurant during summer, but maybe). Best of all, the restaurant was ultra convenient for when I was hungry and didn't have the time to walk out.||When I did walk out, I found the hotel exceptionally well located. Some highlights of very nearby places included:||- Mayashita Park that straddles an elevate train tracks and features greenery, rock-climbing wall (not open when I visited), beach volleyball court (also closed during my visit), great seating areas, and lovely vistas.||- Ichiran Shibuya: Over 4,000 reviews currently on Google, a 40 minute wait when I visited, but worth it. Other diners need to take the subway and/or taxi to get to the restaurant. Guests at All Day Place can easily stroll there.||- Saving my favorite for last, the Tokyo Store Food Station Shibuya is a mere 140 meters from the hotel. Inside you will find beautifully prepared shrink-wrapped meals, fresh breads, mochis, beverages, some produce--all in a clean, quiet, and very well priced air conditioned showroom.||Highly recommend All Day...
