東京都江東区有明２丁目に位置する、りんかい線の駅です。 ゆりかもめ線の有明駅に近く、ゆりかもめ線との乗換駅に指定されています。

東京臨海副都心の東部、有明南地区にある東京国際展示場（東京ビッグサイト）への最寄駅であり、コミックマーケット・東京モーターショー等の開催期間中は大変混雑が予想されます。

駅舎は幌馬車をイメージして作られており、屋根全体が白い膜で覆われている。 白い膜は光を透過し、昼間は太陽の光を受け、駅構内が柔らかな光に包まれます。夜間は全体が光り輝き、幌馬車をイメージした駅舎が浮かび上がる演出も施され、関東の駅100選に選出されている。

地上部コンコースは広く、天井が高い開放感ある構造となっている。駅前にはコンビニ「ローソン」や蕎麦屋・カフェテリア「ドトールコーヒー」があります。

島式ホームの地下駅であり、改札は地上階・ホームが地下２階に位置します。 改札とホームを結ぶエレベーターは、ホームの中央にございます。 ※以前は日立の油圧式でしたが、三菱電機に更新されました。

ホームドアは2018年（平成30年）８月中に設置され、９月30日(日)から使用開始されました。りんかい線内では初めての設置となり、安全性が向上しました。
