The vibe here is a little different compare to the one in Shinjuku. The Oiwa Inari Tamiya Jinja has a famous ghost story behind it. This one is slighly bigger from the one in Shinjuku, but has less people visiting ( at least when I came there). The one in Shinjuku, has some articles about the famous spirit. 『東海道四谷怪談』で有名なお岩さんの家で大切にしていた屋敷の稲荷社。小さな神社で素朴。歌舞伎の話とは異なり、お岩は本来は家を復興させた良妻賢母。後に近所からその社が「於岩稲荷」と呼ばれ、信仰される。於岩稲荷は他にもあるがこちらが本家。

江戸初期、お岩は御家人（御目見以下）の「田宮家」の娘で夫は婿養子。田宮家は幕府の先手（さきて）組同心。同心とは現在では警察的役割で下級役人。先手組は先頭に立つ部隊で、江戸城の門の警備を担う。夫が薄給で田宮家は没落しかかっていたが、夫とともに商家に奉公し、家を再興させ、周囲から畏敬を受ける。

江戸中期に不倫の事件があったようで、江戸後期、於岩信仰とその事件を混ぜて歌舞伎の演目として描かれる。

四谷にあった田宮神社は、明治前期に火事で消失。歌舞伎役者の市川左団次は芝居小屋に近い新川（中央区）の私有地を提供し、田宮神社を再興。しかし昭和初期に突如として四谷に「於岩稲荷」を称する陽運寺が現れる。
