Avoid!! -TLDR just Book APA. Pearl Hotel horror story bellow.

After arriving and checking in to our room at the Pearl Hotel. we noticed the whole room stank of smoke. then after asking the receptionist if someone was smoking in our room? she said yes because we booked a non-smoking free room.

after we explained that we didn't and we specifically choose a non-smoking room (which she did not believe until i literally had to show her our booking receipt saying we ordered "Non-Smoking) she said that theres nothing she can do because they were fully booked (this was as it turns out another lie).

Here the hotel manager arrived, a older gentleman who after being caught up with the situation. told us that this wasn't his fault and isn't taking any responsibility for the mixup. he said its Agoda's fault (the booking site) and that they are constantly lie about the rooms they have available.

I told him that that was a ridiculous stance to take, Agoda is obviously not going out of there way to alienate and lie to there partnered hotels. and that it was embarrassing that they simply wont admit that they made a mistake with the reservation and are unwilling to resolve the situation by just giving us a room that we ordered.

Eventually he reluctantly relented, and told us that there was in fact another room we can have that was non-smoking, just that it had 2 single beds and not a double bed. we told him that that is completely fine, we just wanted a room that we can actually breath in and the beds didn't mater.

Once we got the bags and went to this new room, It turns out the room Had a double bed and not 2 single beds like he said it did. i told him this when returning the keys and he said "oh yes thats my mistake, that room has a double bed not two singles".

i told him that he obviously has no idea the runnings of his hotel, who order what rooms, which rooms had which types of beds and that this incompetence and willingness to gaslight the customers into thinking they made the mistake instead of taking responsibility was inexcusable.

i finished the conversation off by just asking him "if he was in my shoes and experienced this ordeal when just want to check in to the room that you ordered, what would you think?" he couldn't look at me and just held his head down and couldn't answer me. and...

The hotel is near a lot of restaurants and the train stations are close by. The employees are polite. The rooms are terrible. My bed sheets had stains and I noticed the first day there and told the front desk. They got changed. The wall has a hole in it and I told front desk too because I’m not going to be blamed for that. The walls have stains and marks which I mean throughout the years that’s bound to happen but looks like they’ve made no attempts to fix that especially since the hole in the wall has been an issue in the past reviews. I just read a review from another person who mentions a hole in the wall too. I had three bags of trash. One bag with bottles, another bags of cardboard boxes from these little figures I purchased, and one with garbage. I left them neatly in the bathroom for housekeeping and they cleaned the bathroom and left the garbage in the room. I never had that happen in the other Japan hotels I’ve stayed in. I had to go down in the hotel slippers and ask where can I throw away the trash because housekeeping did not take it. All three employees look at me and only the old man answers me to just leave it outside my door. I'm like you want me to leave it in front of my door okay I did not know if that was okay to leave outside the door. I wasn’t gonna fight with them because I know the answer was just to get me out of the lobby. It was a ridiculous response but I was tired and not interested to argue. It’s just embarrassing especially since my room is next to the banquet room. They didn't want to take the trash, which is understandable. I didn't want to hand it to them. I asked them where I can throw it away so i could just do it myself. Don’t stay here unless you want to be really cheap with your accommodations.

I think this business hotel is fine if you understand what you are getting into: cheap, but small rooms, very little extra amenities. But they do have a fridge, which is a huge plus. Note that I took the photo with two beds, but I was actually traveling solo so they took away one of the beds later, freeing up extra room for me. I do think this hotel is sort of still running on technologies from the 70s. They give you a physical key instead of key cards (better not lose it!). And it took them like 10 minutes to find my reservation (flipping through paper print outs). Besides these oddities though, I think the hotel was absolutely fine. 4/5.

What a great value and good location hotel. Many convenient stores around but not much restaurants. At first we hesitate because not sure is it good to go around Tokyo with Subway & JR Pass when staying near Kayabacho station. But we choose correctly. You could travel to all famous locations with Kayabacho & Suitengumae station. (Highly recommend purchase 72 hours Subway ticket). Hotel is not new but very clean, great staff, have air-con heating. Room is small, so careful with your very large luggage. Room be cleaned everyday. Hotel is very quiet at night so you could take good sleep. If have a chance to comeback, I still choose this hotel.
