There are many Mimaru apartments in Tokyo but we chose Tokyo Station East because of (1) availability of the 1-bedroom unit. Other than Tokyo Station East and Ikebukuro, I believe that other Mimaru apartments do not have a separate bedroom in their basic category of units. One will have to top up more for those family/special suites. (2) it is in a quieter area as compared to more 'happening' areas such as Shinjuku.
Unit - Very minimalist and clean look which makes it easy for us to locate/pack our stuff. Unit was cleaned well and there was no dust or grime. Small but well-equipped kitchenette with well-maintained utensils, crockery and cookware. Fridge was of a decent size too. There was a portable humidifier in the unit and we are glad that there is 1 aircon unit in the living area and another aircon in the bedroom. Shower area and toilet are separated. There was a bathtub with shower head which allows flexibility. Prior to booking, we had read about lack of space to hang clothes but thankfully, our unit has 2 closets with hangers provided. We also read that the window shades are not the blackout types which is true.
Cleaning - there is daily regular cleaning (collect trash, change towels, refill paper amenities), and stay cleaning every 3-4 days (daily regular cleaning + bedmaking and vacuuming). For full cleaning which is daily regular cleaning + stay cleaning + wet areas cleaning, one has to top up $20 so that the shower + sink + toilet areas are cleaned.
Service - we were already communicating with Mimaru Tokyo Station East over email before we booked / arrived and they were very responsive with informative replies. During out stay, the front desk staff demonstrated their strong command of English and excellent service attitude.
Nearby food options - google and you will find that there are various food options e.g. value for money Hanamaru Udon (a bowl of hot udon noodles cost $3 before you top up the fried food) and Denny's were where we were at often. You can also grab a quick bite at convenience stores (7-11, Pharmacy, Lawson). There is also a well-equipped 24/7 grocery store about 3-4mins away.
Accessibility to train stations - Hatchobori and Kayabacho stations are within 3 mins walk. Tokyo Station Yaesu side is 1km away so, to make our steps more efficient, we will walk to a bus stop that is about 2-3 mins away https://maps.app.goo.gl/8ZfFZKiJhnMcyd2P7 and take bus 15 or 15 for 3 stops which ends at Tokyo Station. You will only need to tap your card during boarding as it is a flat fare ride (about $2). At night if we were at Tokyo Station, we either take bus 15 or 16 from the terminal or a cab considering our group side. The taxi ride costs about $8-9 from Tokyo Station back. Taxis are easily available in Tokyo and you can just flag 1...
Read moreI stayed at Mimaru Tokyo Station East with my 2 kids (ages 12 and 14) and my husband. Yes, I did rate my experience 3 stars, but having stayed at other Mimaru locations, I'm comparing Tokyo Station East to the other experiences I had. I want to preface that the hotel has fantastic, highly hospitable staff, the rooms are clean, 7/11 is attached to the hotel which makes it very convenient and the hotel is just steps away from Hatchobori station. The lower rating is primarily for the location and the lack of little touches that other Mimaru locations had. Now that I've prefaced it, let's dive in!||We stayed in a 2 Bedroom Apartment. There was plenty of space. Each room had 2 twin beds and there was a main living room/dining room area. The room was clean and stocked with the essentials. The hotel has coin laundry which was handy!||This hotel is located on the edge of the financial district. It is a VERY quiet neighbourhood. This is definitely not a touristy area. I found it to be a little too quiet, with very few dining options in the evening. That being said, the hotel is surrounded by at least 5-6 Lawsons, Family Mart and 7/11 - if konbinis are your thing, you'll find them in abundance! While Hatchobori Station is steps away, it does take longer to get to any of the central locations most tourists are looking to hit, like Shibuya etc. However, Tokyo Station and the Pokemon Center/Cafe are a brisk 15 minute walk. ||It would be nice if this location took some pointers from its sister locations. A QR code or binder recommending dining options, activities, "good to know" about the hotel such as things to know about the immediate area - all things other Mimaru locations provide in a binder within the hotel room or a take-away pamphlet upon check in.||If you're looking for a hotel with large, clean rooms, great staff and a very quiet area, Tokyo Station East might be for you. However, if location is important to you, you might be better off considering another...
Read moreLocation to the train station was a few mins walk away, which is quite convenient. Amenities wise, there were a few restaurants along and opposite the street and a 7-Eleven right downstairs. Just a few walks away were also Family Mart and Lawson. ||Room was clean and small, considering there's really not much space to open luggage to take or pack your stuff, so we ended up putting two luggage on the sofa and the rest of the luggage, cant open - we open to take our stuff and close back again. But to be fair, the room is definitely considered big, in Japan's context. ||We like it that one of the rooms have their own toilet and shower room, and there's another shower room (with bath tub) and another toilet at another area. Come very useful when it is a group of 6 travelling, and you don't have to wait for one another for too long to shower after a long day. ||Free and strong WiFi also in the room. ||Needless to say, the kids were exhilarated with the bunk bed. There were also enough hangers and places to hang your clothes (no wardrobes though) all hang in the open, but it's fine for us. ||Shower head in the shower room is detachable, and there were enough place to put your own toiletries. ||A shout-out to Charles at the reception who helped us with check-in and also who helped us find vendors for wheelchair rental for my mum. ||Overall, while slightly more expensive, but i think the money is worth it for the stay. Will stay at Mimaru again, if...
