While we were wandering around Sangenjaya back streets, we stumbled upon a Matsuri in this shrine (the first one in Oct 2021 after lifting Covid-19 restrictions). The Matsuri was well organized and the staff at the shrine were rater helpful, a large crowd had gathered. Nevertheless the organization was done appropriately.

Tucked away in Sangenjaya, this beautifu shrine is what I would call a "working" shrine. It is host to various festivals throughout the year and it even has a playground at the entrance where kids of various agrees gather after school for games of onigoko. 近所なので定期的に訪れていますが、情報や写真が劣化しない様に投稿します。 晴れの日だと神々しい日差しが幻想的で素敵です。 大好きな神社です😊

当社の鎮座年歴不詳なれど、旧当社別当円泉寺開基の縁起によれば、文禄年間（西暦一五九二ー六年）創祀されたとあるが、平安時代後期源義家が父頼義と共に朝廷の命をうけ陸奥の安倍氏征討に向う途中この地を通過するに際し、八幡神社に武運を祈ったと伝えられている事から少なくともこれより（文禄年間）以前に里人により石清水八幡宮の御分霊を勧請し村の守護神として祀った事はあきらかである。 太子堂の歴史の一頁を開いてきたものに鎌倉道がある。太子堂と若林の村境を通って八幡神社の西側から滝坂道を横切り下北沢と代田の境を通って鎌倉へ通ずる道で鎌倉道と呼ばれ古い時代には行きつく目的地の名を取って付けたようである。 此の鎌倉道の附近に義家は諸将兵に命じ駒を止め同勢をわし酒宴をはった、太子堂上本村ーニー～二番地の辺を（五丁目）土器塚と云い、酒宴後の土器などの地に埋めたのでそう呼んだのである。その塚に続く塚を同勢山と呼ぶのは、同勢をわした名残である。 真言宗豊山派円泉寺境内に聖徳太子像を安置し、それより太子の號をとりて部落の村名とした。 以上は、古老の伝承、武蔵風土記等を参照記したものである。
